not the best

3

This mini laptop is not the best. It does not have Microsoft word, which is basically a necessity in today's world.. It freezes often. And we have to restart it a lot. It is small and convenient to carry and store, The battery lasts pretty good for a small lap top . The lettering on the keys wears out quickly. The power cords do not last long and quickly get hot. I realize a mini laptop is not designed to have the same durability of a desk top but this is rediculous. the problems definatly out weight the benefits. I cannot say we are getting our money's worth. With the Dell Inspiron mini 10 netbook, the truth would be that we got what we paid for.

Dell Inspiron Mini: Tiny in size, Giant in features.

When I purchased the Dell Inspiron Mini 101, I wasn't quite sure what to expect. I knew it wasn't going to replace my laptop for serious processing power on the go, but I had hoped to have a nice lightweight solution that would help when going on short trips - and that's exactly what I got. The weight of the netbook is perfect, it weighs just a few pounds. This makes it great for anyone who is traveling a lot, especially on the job. It comes with a 160GB SATA hard drive which is a vast improvement over the flash-based drive that was in the previous Inspiron model, which is still in its infancy. The stock ram of the inspiron mini is 1GB but it can easily be upgraded to 2GB, speeding up the netbook quite a bit. My Inspiron Mini came with Windows 7 Starter pre-installed, which I was pleasantly surprised with. I had heard the Windows 7 Starter was crippled in functionality but so far I've ran into no issues with it. To top it off they managed to fit a 1.3MP web cam into the thing so that you can keep in touch with family and friends while on the go on a more personal level. The biggest let down so far has been the Intel Atom CPU. It's just too slow! Four and five year desktop processors can compete with it in terms of processing power and that's just pitiful in this day and age. I'm sure newer atom processors may be able to rectify this, however, making the Inspiron Mini netbook a competitor to normal laptops at a third of the size.

Light and a nice size

I've had this netbook for over 6 months. I like its size and weight. It's nice to travel with compared to my old huge laptop. The biggest drawback is that it doesn't have a CD drive, which, silly me, I didn't realize before I bought it that it did not contain. It is also kind of slow processing. I teach online courses, so it is kind of small for doing all my work, and I have to connect it at home to a larger monitor when teaching my seminars, otherwise the font is so small since I need to see everything at once. But for portability, it's great. I bring it all over my house and traveling. Some people say they have difficulty with the smaller keyboard, but I don't understand what the problem is. I have no difficulty with the size. I have long fingers, and don't find the transition from the traditional keyboard to the mini netbook keyboard difficult. Of course I wish it had a number pad, but you can only ask for so much on this size of a keyboard.

I bought this for my husband because he travels for work a lot.  It's perfect for him.  Small and lightweight, easy to travel with, and helps him get some work done on the road plus stay in touch with his family. The downside...  It doesn't have a CD rom drive so sometimes it's a pain to load new programs and it doesn't have a Word program so the kids can't use it for homework...
