Dell Inspiron E1705 PC Notebook Review Summary

Dell is recognized as one of the top notebook manufactures in the world and stellar offerings like the Inspiron E1705 are the reason why. Our community of portable computer users has mostly good things to say about their Inspiron E1705’s; one reviewer praised it saying: "The E1705 is a beautiful, fast machine which can handle all the entertainment you’ll want…I don’t think you’ll do better than this Dell E1705." Still another reviewer stated: "This laptop has completely replaced my PC. The computer is a great value. It is durable, and dependable." This rather large laptop is equipped with a 17" TFT active matrix WUXGA display, powerful Intel Core Duo processor at up to 2.0GHz, up to 4GB DDR2 RAM, wireless LAN, and (6) USB 2.0 ports. While one reviewer experienced problems with the computer’s wireless NIC and hard drive, overall our community of reviewers highly recommends this notebook. Read what our reviews have to say about the Dell Inspiron E1705 as well as the Hewlett Packard HP Pavilion DV6000 and Gateway MT6840 notebook computers.

Great machine for home computing. Great option for families who want a home PC that can be tucked-away on occasion. This is not a machine for easy transporting! It's large size and bulk make it very impractical as a true laptop. Instead, I'd call it a "luggable" that's suitable as a desktop replacement...

In all, the Dell brand of laptop is a quality machine and has been one of the best on the market for a few years now. They do use cheaper parts in their computers to give the consumer a less-expensive product, but, in the competitive world of computer part manufacturing, most parts perform at about the... review »

The Dell Inspiron E1705 PC Notebook is my son-in-law’s computer. I have used it enough to be able to review it. Not too long ago he bought me one similar but smaller which I will review

Why did Rob buy the E1705 Dual Powerhouse?

He chose this one because he is a gamer, loads lots of photos, graphics and DVDs. He bought it because he plays Poker as a serious hobby. This Next Generation of computers allows four poker games at a time which is not possible with my old Dell Inspiron 4100. The E in the name stands for entertainment.

The screen is massive coming in at 17- inched wide screen....

I own this laptop for a year  and is great, i used for video processing and for gaming, runs smoothly. The Nvidia 7900 GS card that my laptop has runs almost everything, and the big screen is very nice for those matters.

It does have a couple of cons: Its very heavy, maybe to heavy for a "portable" device, the chipset only support up to 2 MB of RAM. last but not least the inspiron comes with integrated audio wich is not the best for audio/video processing.

Dell is hands down the best computer maker ever! I have an HP and a Gateway also, and they don't even compare. First of all, dell has the best customer support. You don't have to wait for hours on end, and you can get help on anything. The computers are durable and awesome!

I have had my Dell Inspirion E1705 now for about 3 years. I absolutely love it! I decided to go with a 17" screen because my eyes tire easily and I just really wanted the bigger window for viewing ease. I also do some graphic work too so it helps that was as well.

The one thing I can say is it's a little on the heavier side but not too bad. It came loaded with Windows Vista as well. At first I was a little put off by that since I had just become accustomed to Windows XP and I am always a little resistant to change, especially to untried products just out on the market not to long. I can say that...

Many features and works well.  Issues with motherboard after one year, also problems with battery pack, and keyboard.  Better get warantee if you buy this one. Otherwise, it is a pretty good laptop for the money.  Image is good, and processor is fast.   Overall, not bad, but keep the service on it forever.  Pretty typical of Dell.

the quality of this dell laptop is great. it is easy to take around and is about the size of a regular laptop which makes easy to operate. I love all the componets and features that dell had to offer. I chose many products to fit my needs. I think that everyone should get one likfe this. Also the speed of logging on and off is very fast. I am able to take my laptop anywhere and still get reception so that i can use others wireless access. I have taken it with me on vacation and didnt think that it would work around the area that i was in.  The area that i was in was out in the middle of no where...

I love it!   This is my third Dell Inspiron laptop and every one gets better.  It is a 17" widescreen notebook and the first Inspiron to be released with the new Intel Core Duo processor.  They say the "e" in e1705 stands for "Entertainment", with various media features available, fast Core Duo processor, a generous amount of ports and the option for a high-end graphics card and this is a big plus.   As for construction ... it has magnesium alloy construction on the lid and bottom of the notebook for extra protection.  This means that the lid provides very good protection for the screen. ...

This machine is a workhorse, and you can get it in desktop-replacement-friendly sizes (mine has a 17-inch screen!).

The downside is, of course, that the bigger it is, the MORE it WEIGHS.  I'm not gonna lie: by the time you pack the computer AND the chunky battery pack, you are going to be lugging that thing around, wondering why it's considered a "portable" computer!

It also runs hot, of course -- the power box is hot, and sometimes the bottom of the computer is super-hot, too.

That said, I've never met a laptop that didn't have these flaws.  And this model has a lot going for it, too.

I love the...

I bought this computer about 2.5 years ago and was very impressed at first. The first problem I had was with windows vista, I couldn't find headsets and microphones that were compatible. Every time you want to install something new, Vista asks you permission to allow it to install for what seems like half a dozen times. About a year after I bought this, the hard drive completely gave out. One morning I turned it on and the black startup screen came on and never went further than that. I had to pay for someone to wipe and reinstall everything. About six months ago my battery stopped charging. I...

Inpiron E1705 is really a great replacement of a desktop which yu have at your home or workplace. This computer with 17 inch screen, a fast processor, a graphic card, and a high ram (more than 2 GB) can be a great way to enjoy the games as well and believe me you will enjoy it speciially if you will have shiny screen. I bought this laptop 2 years back and till now I have that with me with zero probelms. Along with such a great laptop, the service from Dell is awesome where they are always readyto replace anything which stops working. In an all it is really a Great Great deal to buy this laptop and...

We purchased our Dell Laptop about 6 months ago.  For the most part we have been satisfied with our purchase.  This laptop is ideal for home use.  The kitchen desk we have for a computer is quite small, so the notebook was a great way for us to maximize the space.  The amount of memory that comes standard with this computer is plenty for home use or minimal business use.  However, I have not been impressed with Windows Vista, the software program that came installed with the computer.  I have found that it's not compatible with my Kodak Easy Share camera or the remote access application... review »
