To the Point

My computer is a Dell Inspiron E1505 which I’ve had for about nine months. It cost under $1,000 and can be built at www.dell.com. It's a bit heavier than ideal but not so much that it doesn't come with me everywhere.

About the E1505:

Memory and hard drive:

This machine’s hard drive...

I bought this computer about 2 years ago. The computer had problems right out of the box. I called dell, and they gave me the run around. They kept telling me to try different things, until I had the computer for a month. Then they told me that they could not take the computer back and give me another... read full review »

Love the computer, but I have had a couple instances when the keyboard key popped off, which was annoying.  It was fairly simple to fix each time.  Only a little over a year after getting the laptop, the battery started displaying a message on the computer saying that the battery was nearing the end of it's usable life.  I have researched this problem, and my battery is not unique.  A new battery is pretty expensive...better off needing to be connected to an outlet 24/7 until a new laptop is needed.

This Dell 1505 is not my first laptop.  I don't just use computers for fun.

I've had IBM's and Compaqs.  This is my first Dell and I'll never buy anything but a Dell.

I've not had any problem with this 1505.  My husband has a 1705 and he has had some problems with the screen.  However, he is always lifting and moving his laptop by the screen. I've told him that is probably what the problem is.

The performance of this laptop, the battery, the screen and the ports are all excellent.

The only thing that I'd like is a true docking station.  I did buy the "docking station" that uses the USB port...

The Dell Inspiron E1505 has been a nice laptop for school use.  It definitely has enough power to perform day-to-day tasks such as email, word processing, and spreadsheeting.  I have used it to convert CDs to MP3s for use with my MP3 player.  I have also encoded home video files and burned them to DVD.  The laptop performed surprisingly well in these task thanks to the Pentium Core Duo processor.  I have been happy with the performance of this laptop.

As far as quality of the laptop, I would have to say it is middle of the road.  The shell is a little flimsy feeling, although it has never...

I got this notebook for college from my parents. I had a choice of several brands, but I went with Dell because of past experience (my dad owns a Dell desktop that he's had for 7 years and it's still running great) as well as cost. I went with the E1505 because while it wasn't as fast as the E1705, it was cheaper and it was smaller/lighter (since I'm a college student I have to lug the notebook around the campus).

A couple of not-so-good things to point out... While the E1505 looks great and sleek, after a bit of use it starts to look worn down. I've had this notebook for about 18 months, and the...

Hunted around online to find special deals and freebies when I purchased, so was an excellent value for all of the features I included.  If you're dilligent about it, you can get a lot of computer for your money.  Has been quite reliable, though does have a few minor quirks (screen sometimes blacks out after being closed).  Did have to have the motherboard replaced, but the service was VERY fast--I highly recommend using the online chat format for customer support--no interpreters needed and you've got a record of your conversation.  Computer is a great size--large enough that you don't have... read full review »

The Dell Inspirion E1505 is one of the best Personal Computers I have ever tried out. I'm online often and this computer is definitly very reliable. I have two of them.
I would definitly choose this laptop if you are new PC user or as a first time
for a teenager. It is great to play games and to watch DVDs. I highly reccomend it!
One thing I would like to mention, in case someone gets their Dell Inspirion E1505 and has this problem, is that one of the two  PCs I have got completely erased. I'm still not sure how, but my hard-drive fell and I had to get a new hard-drive. This only happened to the...

This is my 3rd laptop & has it has been Ok. Customer Service thru Dell has been good, the wait for phone support has not been excessive. I had to send the system in for repairs after dropping it down the stairs, and that took a bit of effort.  They system that was returned was missing the Bluetooth & ad a couple other issues, but I survived.  I have the TrueLife WSXGA+ display, which I would not do again.  I have to position myself just right to prevent glare from light sources behind me.  Over all it has been a pretty good experience.  My 1st Dell & when the time comes, will probably...

I have had my inspiron going on 2 and a half years now, and I have not had a single major problem with it. It is my first laptop, and it's going to be difficult for another one to match its dependability. I've never owned a desktop that took care of me like my laptop does. The only thing I can think of that might turn people off is its size. It's a bit heavy and cumbersome. It does fit in my Targus backpack though, and I don't have a problem carrying it around this way. It's worth it to me for the size of the screen and it's multimedia capabilities....oh, and I can run Sims 2 on it...which is a... read full review »

So ive had my laptop for about 2 years now and it works like a breeze. Only because I completely reformatted it 4-5 months after getting it, from being throughly annoyed at the dell products installed in there and the slowness of the cpu itself. I did a real clean and minimal install of windows xp (vista is horrible) and it works great now.

One thing that I do like about the dell laptop, physically, is that i have a very nice leather skin to protect the monitor, and the mediadirect button that takes me right to all my music and videos.

Overall i give this laptop a 3/5

I have been very happy with my Dell Inspiron E1505 for almost 2 years now.  Although technology continues to advance, it still meets my needs.  It has been well used, since I am in a foreign country and it's functioning as my CD player and television in addition to my computer.  I agree with those who have said that the hinges are not the most sturdy, but as long as you handle it with care it is fine.  Windows XP has a few problems, but I wouldn't blame them on the laptop.  This computer has done everything I've asked it to do, and I'm happy with it.

This is my second Dell Laptop.  I take them with me everywhere and find that they are very durable.  I have had no problems with it and am very pleased.  I will continue to purchase Dell products from now on.

Just remember to replace your laptop battery every so often.  I did not know this and my last one lasted for 4 years then blew on me.  Also back up material on a thumb drive.  This helps should you fry your laptop and they can't retrieve anything

i have enjoyed my laptop for about a year. then the battery started to not hold a charge very long. before long it would only hold a charge for about 30 minutes, which is about 4 hours shorter than when it was new. i checked to see how much a replacement battery is, and it is about $160 from dell. which isnt too bad except that the reviews on dells website say that the replacement battery lasts about the same. i will not buy another dell computer if this is the quality that they put into their laptops.

I work from my home office and I am also "on the road" with my E1505 for a week at a time with my laptop. I serves me well as my traveling office. I have never had a problem with it in any way. I use a GPS and a map program so it is my more than just my office away from home. Being away from home this often it does get some rough treatment but has held up very well. I would recommend this laptop to anyone looking for power, storage, speed and durability.
