To the Point

My computer is a Dell Inspiron E1505 which I’ve had for about nine months. It cost under $1,000 and can be built at www.dell.com. It's a bit heavier than ideal but not so much that it doesn't come with me everywhere.

About the E1505:

Memory and hard drive:

Dell has a great reputation for being able to customize your laptop or PC to your needs.  This above all is a great feature.  I do however have issues with the way they market their computers.  The deals you see on a given week can fluctuate significantly in price but you have to look very close at...

This is my 3rd laptop & has it has been Ok. Customer Service thru Dell has been good, the wait for phone support has not been excessive. I had to send the system in for repairs after dropping it down the stairs, and that took a bit of effort.  They system that was returned was missing the Bluetooth & ad a couple other issues, but I survived.  I have the TrueLife WSXGA+ display, which I would not do again.  I have to position myself just right to prevent glare from light sources behind me.  Over all it has been a pretty good experience.  My 1st Dell & when the time comes, will probably...

The computer worked great during the standard 1 year man. warranty. Then the problems started- a new hard drive was need. And the Dell tech came to the house to install it, great, not, the tech forgot to put the screws back in the unit, now the hard drive can literally slide out if you pick up the computer wrong. Then the optical drive broke, and needed to be replaced. Then the blue screens started and continue now. Good thing I got the extended premium service plan.
TIP: IF you buy a Dell- buy an extended service plan
TIP: Don't buy Dell

Love the computer, but I have had a couple instances when the keyboard key popped off, which was annoying.  It was fairly simple to fix each time.  Only a little over a year after getting the laptop, the battery started displaying a message on the computer saying that the battery was nearing the end of it's usable life.  I have researched this problem, and my battery is not unique.  A new battery is pretty expensive...better off needing to be connected to an outlet 24/7 until a new laptop is needed.

The Dell E1505 is a good laptop. It's lightweight and convenient. It just needs to be a little faster, then it would be great. Running XP Home edition. 2gb RAM. Programs lag a little, if multiple programs are open. Wi-Fi could be alot more powerful. When using in my house just 30-35 feet from the wireless router, with a clear shot, I don't get full bars.

The middle child in Dell's line of basic home laptops, the Inspiron E1505 makes a good home or small-business system if it stays put most of the time, as it's too heavy for regular travel. With the Inspiron E1505, all of the crucial elements are accounted for: you get a comfortable keyboard and touch pad, a decent display, and a very solid collection of basic multimedia features and connections. The base unit starts at approximately $700, but Dell offers a vast array of configuration options for everyone from the most basic Web and e-mail user to digital junkies who require midrange gaming and... read full review »

I bought the Dell Inspiron e1505 for college and within one year, the hard drive died.  I cannot turn on the computer, and you have to ship it to Dell for them to fix it.  Dell has very poor customer service and it was difficult to get someone to talk to me on the phone.  When it was working, the wifi was fast and easy to connect, and the programs loaded easily enough.  However, the computer came with many unwanted and useless programs.  I like that the power cord is long and that it gets a good battery life, but the computer was just too bulky, awkward and heavy, especially compared with...

I have had my Dell Inspiron E1505 for about three years now and overall have had only minor problems with it.  I am on the computer daily for work, school, networking and gaming so my notebook gets exessive use.  I also haul it with me everyday to work and school and was concerned that the wear and tear may leave me having to purchase an new notebook evry year so I purchased the extended service plan and am happy to say that I have never had to use it.  That being said there are some issues that I do wish Dell would address.  One of the most minor of those issues is how easily the exterior...

Dell's revamped Inspiron E1505, an entertainment notebook, now includes an Intel Core 2 Duo processor. Though still a poor choice for gaming, the E1505 is plenty zippy for any other applications, including music and photo editing, and movie viewing. The 6.9-pound E1505 also throws in pretty good speakers, dedicated media buttons, and a cushy keyboard with stylish white trim, giving you a great all-around choice for consumers who don't want to spend an arm and a leg on a desktop replacement.

Generously equipped for the price, our $1186 (as of 11/6/06) E1505 came with the Windows XP Media Center...

The Dell Insprion e1505 notebook is a great laptop, especially for college students.  It works great, and has enough memory and RAM to meet the needs of your average person.  It has lasted me three years thus far, and will be four years in June of 2010.  It is starting to run slow, but that may be my own fault.  If I were to change this computer, I would put a better graphics and sound card into this system.  It is a little heavy to carry back and forth between classes, but if you attend a college were the students do not take their laptops as often, this is a great computer.  If you do take...

I have been an avid Dell user for over 7 years now.  I have purchased 5 computers from them in that 7 or so years.  Always felt I was getting a good deal and a great computer.  Until this one.

As for the computer itself  it has a great wide screen, intagrated number pad, and for a laptop- pretty good speakers.  It really ends there.  Within 2 months of owning it the AC adapter went kaput.  I called, they replaced.  2 months later, same thing, only this time the battery went with it.  They sent someone out to look at it, replaced the motherboard and still nothing.  Called back- they...

I have had my Dell Inspiron for about seven months now, and I have had no problems what so ever.  I came with Windows Vista, which in my opinion is a very good program.  I have had no trouble getting into any web site or program.  It has wifi and is very compatable.  My Notebook fits in my shoulder bag with room for other things that I may need to carry.  The card reader is excellent, it's pretty much reads anything which is good because I have three boys aging from twelve through two.  They can watch movies and play cd rom games, and when they need to move to a different room my notebook...

Prior to purchasing this laptop, I owned a desktop PC from Dell, which I'd had very few problems with. When I was purchasing the laptop, the sales person advised me to choose Windows Vista, claiming that it did not have as many problems as I had heard and was very user-friendly. I wish that I had never listened to him. I have had multiple problems running Vista on this laptop. It frequently lags, freezes, or crashes all together when I am only doing simple tasks with it.

Vista's updates were causing me trouble, so I turned automatic updates off. However, I'm now unable to get their updates to work...
