Dell Inspiron E1405 Laptop Review Summary

Portable computers are starting to out-sell their heavier desktop cousins by larger and larger margins and Dell is in the thick of the fray with models like the Inspiron E1405 laptop designed for those on a budget. Our community of portable computer users has mostly good things to say the Inspiron 1405; one reviewer praised it saying: “[W]ith 2 GB ram and intel core duo processor the performance is good if you use windows XP.” Dell fitted the Inspiron 1405 with a 14.1” TFT active matrix wide-screen display, your choice of powerful Intel Core Duo processors, up to 2GB (shared) DDR2 Dual-channel RAM, wireless LAN. While a few reviewers experienced problems with Dell customer support, which in turn dimmed their view of the notebook, overall our community of reviewers highly recommends the small notebook. Read what our reviewers has to say about the brushed silver Dell Inspiron E1405 as well as the Hewlett Packard HP Pavilion DV6000 and Acer Aspire notebook computers.

I wanted a light-weight laptop that's not too small so I can have a decent size screen and has good speed, memory.  I also do not want one that cost a fortune. Most importantly, I need one that come with a very good warranty.  I need a warranty that can fix the laptop if it is damaged from use and... review »

The Dell Inspiron E1405 would be fine for people who don't use their computer every day.  However, for people who travel with their laptop a lot, or people who aren't extremely kind to their computer, I wouldn't recommend it.  I'm a college student and have had the computer for three years now.  My...

I love Dell's fabulous customer service and support!  They keep on top of upgrades so your computer is always up to date.  They have a phone tree for customer service that's actually useful instead of annoying.  Dell has won many awards for their customer service, and I can see why.

Liked my Inspiron fine, until constant use wore down the mousepad and mouse buttons. I used a plug-in mouse, made due, and whined for a few weeks about the endless cluster-you-know-what that it would take to get it repaired until my husband took the bull by the horns, and emailed them for me. They told him to expect an 8-10 day turnaround, which seemed hopeful.

Within a day, a pre-paid foam case arrived at our house and we mailed out the laptop the following day. The day after that, we received an automated, but extremely thorough voicemail confirming they received the package and explaining what...

Dell Inspiron E1405 laptop is a good piece of device and is good both for office and home use.  With 2 GB ram and intel core duo processor the performance is good if you use windows XP. The only problem I faced that it came with Vista and I had to reinstall XP as most of the applications I use were not compatible with vista. The necessary drivers are available on Dell's website. But the customer support is not very good.
I could not run Visual fortran application on it even when I changed the operating system from vista to xp and the customer support could not help me and I wasted lot of my precious...

Bought my Inspiron over a year ago and haven't had a single problem. Came with XP and the upgrade to Vista (which I haven't installed). I have several Dell's networked in my house and Dell is all I buy. (unless I build my own) Their customer service is excellent and whenever I run into hardware issues I have never had a problem getting replacement parts through warranty service.

My Dell Inpsiron has lasted me almost 3 years now, which is the longest I've had a laptop. Plus, it's been dropped a couple of times (I have 2 big dogs who have knocked it off the couch). I have never had a problem with this computer and how it operates. At times, it seems to perform a bit slowly, but that has only been more recently, and I have a lot of programs, pictures, music, etc. on it. Newer Dells are coming with a lot more storage space, so that should be less of a problem with a newer one. The only cons about it are that it seems to be maybe a tiny bit on the cheap-ish side just because...

I am sorry that I purchased this laptop. I needed a new computer for graduate school (had never owned a laptop before), and the only reason I didn't purchase a Mac was because my school's website strongly recommended students purchase PCs. It turned out it's not really a problem to have a Mac. The computer runs extremely slowly, whether opening Word or My Computer. Whenever I call Dell about an unrelated problem, they ask me if my laptop is running slowly and if I'd like to purchase more memory for $75. What I'd like is for the laptop to run well without having to purchase additional memory. They... review »

I am very pleased with the Dell products I have owned three Pcs and 3 laptops - upgrading each time,  I also have the in home service and have needed very little repair, and when it was needed they responded promplty and provided service within 24 hours in my home - that alone is worth the product.  I am searching now for a new laptop with a docking station to replace an older Dell PC, as I like being able to take the lap top with me.  I dont think there products are as good as they once were but they are still far better than what else is out there.

I really like my dell laptop.  The computer came with an "upgraded" glossy screen that really is horrible.  The glare is so bad you can't use it in any type of sun light.  The battery pack that came with the original computer was pretty weak and didn't last long.  I was able to replace it with a generic from ebay and now I love the computer even more.

This is a great lap top at a great price. You can choose your options and build it any way you want. Dell alway has advertised specials that make this ;ap top an evn greater value. With a 2 GB memroy its speed is top notch. I have had no problema with Vista and do not expect to have any. I am very happy with my purchase and have plenty of money left in my pocket.

I love it! I absolutly love it!  I have had mine for about 7-8 months now.  I have never had an issue with it not once.  What more can you ask for?  I think its great.  Its small enough to just fit in my back pack.  I cant complain a bit.  Good job Dell!!!!

I used the inspiron 700 for years. I am not satisfied with the battery. Only after 1 year, the battery can only last for 5 minutes, I hope that Dell can recall all the batteries which have potential problems. It seems that all problems will appears when the warranty is expired...

My husband bought one of these(Dell Inspiron E1405). It is great fun and fast too. My computer is an old 1999 dell desktop computer. I really like the portabillity of the laptop. And the speed and ease to use. He has windows vista.
