Dell
Inspiron 1721 Laptop
My first experience with a computer was a Dell. I've had two desktop computers and a laptop since 1990. I've never had a problem with any of my Dell computers. I prefer a laptop to a desktop. A laptop you can carry it with you anywhere. There are fewer wires to connect. You don't have to worry about a mouse or a mouse pad because you have a touchpad on the laptop.
I bought my Dell Inspiron 1721 Laptop last year at Staples. My parents wanted to buy them a new Dell desktop computer. Their computer died some time ago. Since I was shopping for a Dell laptop, I just gave them my Dell desktop computer. My desktop was only two years old.
About the Dell Inspiron 1721 Laptop~
The exterior is all black except for the top is midnight blue. The interior is silver and the keyboard has black lettering. The keyboard has a feature not on most laptops, a numeric keypad. The mouse is a touchpad, which is easy to use.
The LCD display is a widescreen 17" XGA. There is a built-in camera for video capture and the camera indicator is located above the screen. The power button is located above the keyboard. There are five device status lights to the right of the keyboard, which will light up in blue. You have the Power Light, Hard Drive Activity Light, Battery Status Light, Wi-Fi Status Light, and Bluetooth Status Light. There are three keyboard status lights to the left of the power button. You have the Num Lock, Caps Lock, and Scroll Lock. The media control buttons are in front of the laptop along with the volume control.
The Dell Inspiron 1721 Laptop has an AMD processor, which runs at 1.90 GHz. It came with an internal 8x DVD+/-RW drive and a 256GB hard drive. Wow! This gives me a ton of memory to store all of my documents and photos. I still have plenty of memory left. The laptop came with 2GB of memory. I have a Dell wireless card that is built-in to the laptop. The laptop came with Windows Vista Home Edition, Microsoft Works, and software for the Dell Webcam, DVD Drive, and other programs like Windows Media Player, Windows Photo Gallery, Windows DVD Maker, so on.
There are five USB connectors, three at the back and two on the right side, for connecting a mouse, keyboard, or printer to the laptop. Some of the other connectors on the laptop are for an external monitor, headphones, a microphone, the modem line, and the network line.
The Dell Inspiron 1721 Laptop came with a slot for Express Cards. These cards provide additional memory, wired/wireless communications, multimedia, and security features. There is also a slot for an 8-in-1 memory card reader, which provides a convenient way to view and share digital photos, music, and videos stored on a memory card.
There are two internal fans to prevent the laptop from overheating; one on the left side and second fan is underneath the laptop. The laptop comes with a battery. I've used the laptop on battery a couple of times. The battery will last approximately two hours it just really depends on what you are doing.
My Viewpoint
I bought the Dell Inspiron 1721 Laptop for the design and the 17" display screen. I like that this laptop has a numeric keypad, which is not a common feature on laptops. The mouse touchpad is easy to use; just rub your finger over the pad to move the mouse. You can move your mouse pointer vertically and horizontally right from the touchpad. I like that the volume control is on the front of the laptop for fast access. My wireless internet works great on this laptop.
I bought my Dell Inspiron 1721 Laptop at Staples rather than going through the Dell website. I saved on the S&H cost by purchasing my laptop at a retail store. Staples has great service and everyone is always very helpful and friendly.
I would recommend the Dell Inspiron 1721 Laptop to someone who is looking to purchase a laptop that is fast, reliable, and convenient. I give it 5 Stars!
