As 2005 came to a close, it became obvious my 300MHz, almost 8 year old computer wasn't going to hack it anymore.  It had served me admirably throughout college and for the first 3 1/2 years after, but I was tired.  Tired of waiting for it to boot up, tired of waiting for my dial up connection (all it could handle) to load web pages, tired of it slowing down to a crawl if multiple programs were open.  I was tired of it freezing, or just restarting on it's own.

So I took some spare money and along with a financing plan, I dumped it into a brand new Dell Dimension E510 desktop computer.  With the customizations I used, it was about a $1,000 investment, but every penny was well worth it.  Compared to my previous computer, this thing was a beast.

With a pentium 4 processor, dual DVD-ROM/CD-RW drives, a 3.5 floppy drive (what can I say, I'm old school in a lot of ways), a hard drive that was 20X bigger than what I had before, and all sorts of other bells and whistles (so sue me, I'm not the most technical guy in the world), I was in heaven.

In 18 months, I've had zero problems with this computer.  It hardly ever, if at all, freezes.  It doesn't reboot on it's own.  It's lightning fast, and can handle multiple programs being open at once like it's nothing.  Dell's package deal also has come in handy.  By packaging a complete McAfee security program, a printer, and Microsoft Office with it, I ended up saving a bundle compared to what I might have paid for those separately.

It runs on Windows XP, and also has Windows Media Center software installed as well.

Yes, Dell does install some things that are nearly impossible to remove (their whole partnership with google is annoying as hell), but, on the whole, these minor imperfections are just that: MINOR.

I can safely say every penny I spent on this machine was worth it.  From customer service to delivery to product performance, I've been extremely satisfied.

I have to agree with you, this is a great tower from the folks at Dell. I have had mine up and running for almost as long as you and not a lick of trouble yet. Great review...
