Dell Computers

My experience with Dell computers has been with their laptops.  My husband has always worked from home and here's how our computer pecking order goes.  He buys a new computer for work, I get his hand me down (until I got my own Mac three years ago and now I don't want any hand me downs) and then they go to our oldest child and so on.

The good points about a Dell laptop is that they are reasonably priced and when you order one the sales department really seems to listen to what you need and don't need and you can get a Dell laptop just for you at a reasonable price.

Dell laptops will seem reasonably easy to use, have a decent battery time and a nice size keyboard.  Those are the good points in addition to a good price.

However, if you are looking for a lap top to use long term, there are two things that I can point out that have happened consistently in our house with Dell lap tops that we have not seen with other lap tops, PCs or Macs:  The key covers come off of Dell lap tops easily.  As in, with 3 Dell lap tops, some keyboard key-tops came off and we've never seen this on any other computer.  My next concern about Dell lap tops, although long term, ( and I am talking about 3 years out) is the screen quality deteriorates in a way that impairs use.

My Viewpoint:  We bought several Dell lap tops that were a good bargain and worked fine for a couple of years but long term Dell lap tops don't stand up to regular use.  I wouldn't buy one again for our family but if you want a reasonable price today for short term or sporadic use, maybe Dell is for you.
