Loved this book. Filled with emotion and great characters and content. I laughed, cried, and couldn't put it down. In fact this is one of the first novel's that I have read all the way through (which, after having a child, has not been something I have been able to do since pregnancy) in two days tops... review »

I picked up a few books at BJ's last weekend, including Dear John by Nicholas Sparks.  I've read a few of his other books (The Notebook, Message In A Bottle, The Rescue, A Walk To Remember, The Wedding) and have enjoyed most of them.  For $8 I figured that I'd give Dear John a shot.

The story centers...

I knew what I was in for when I bought this book, yet I was compelled to buy it anyways. Why do I always do that?

I  am a fan of Nicholas Sparks.  The Notebook reeled me in. Since then, I have read many Nicholas Sparks books.  Usually I can predict the ending about 1/3 of the way into the book.  This book was no exception.  The only difference is that I could predict the ending just by reading the title.

Wild boy enlists in Army and straightens out.  Comes home on leave and meets Ms. Right.  They fall in love.  He has to go back to Germany.  They write.  She falls in love with someone...

I was just given a great big bag full of novels in our local book swap. Among them were several Jodi Picoult and Nicholas Sparks books. Not ordinarily a romance reader, I picked and chose my way through this bag according to jacket blurbs.

This is the first book of Spark's I have read, and really I did think it was okay and he seems to be a solid writer who can make characters come alive for the reader. I just have to wonder about the purpose of starting at the end of the story. For me it made the outcome a little too predictable.

Still I was sniffling all the way through it, which would explain,...

Nicholas Sparks has a way with words and he takes you into a magical place with Dear John.  In this heartbreaking novel you are on the edge of your seat praying for John as he is overseas defending his country after 9/11, while your heart goes out to his beloved girlfriend back in the US.  Its an improbable romance that steals your heart and makes you wish for a love like theirs.  You go through the ups and downs of family devastation and them being thousands of miles apart.  This book puts you in a small town and makes you believe you are a part of it, It is a perfect novel to read on the...

The book Dear John was a great book, this is the first book that I have read from cover to cover in one day. I was on vacation and picked this book up cause was told that N. Sparks writes great books.  When I got back to the house sat down and kept reading the book till it was done.  The book was something that I think we have been through in life.  You can put yourself into the book and relate easily. I would recommend this and any other book by N. Sparks.

The only other Nicolas Sparks book I have read was the Notebook and I found these 2 books very different.  I found myself not being able to put it down.  At one point I'd be smiling, then laughing, then crying.  I thought this was really a great book and a wonderful love story.  Not the usual as far as love stories go.  I would highly recommend it, its a great book that you won't be able to put down.

Nicholas Sparks writes easy-read books and I like that.  John and Savannah meet on some unusual circumstances.  John has enlisted in the army and then meets the girl of his dreams......the events of 9/11 change the course of their relationship and a choice for Savannah must be made to wait for John or move on with her life.  I would recommend this book to all.

I am a big fan of realistic yet very romantic novels, and found that "Dear John" gave more than i expected. In all honesty, i probably cried at least 4 times while reading this novel. That is how much of an impact it will have on you. Mind you i am a teenager, so views probably vary by age. All in all, fantastic! Read it in 3 days.

Given the title you already know the ending of the book.  However it is well written enought that it somehow gives you hope that the ending won't be what you already know it is.  Sparks really does have a way with words that will capture you.  I would recommend the book, but be prepared to be slightly disappointed.

After reading other reviews, I have to say that this book is a great book. While it is similar to others of Nicholas Sparks' books, it is also unique. And just because it is similar does not mean that you should decide not to read it. It is one of those books that you just cannot put down. It made me both cry, and smile.

This book shows just how hard it is to make the right decision by giving up what you want and love the most. John gave up the love of his life and helped her and her husband out in a huge way! This books was very well written and Nicholas sparks has a way of bringing his books to life. I feel as if i know these people!

I love Nicholas Sparks books.   ALmost all of them !!!  This one was great.  It was a typical boy meets girl story, but the twists and turns and the sacrificial love that two guys made for one girl is heart warming.  The end is a tear-wrenching chapter.

Nicholas Sparks is a wonderful writer.  I buy everything he writes.   I was disappointed in this book.  It was not as good as his other books.  The ending was very predictable and disappointing.  I am glad I read it though.  It was an easy read.

This book was yet again great. This man is such an awesome author! I have loved all his books and never have been disappointed. This one also made me cry, but in a different way. I was hoping that it would end differently. I highly recommend that you read this book.
