Dear John  —

I was just given a great big bag full of novels in our local book swap. Among them were several Jodi Picoult and Nicholas Sparks books. Not ordinarily a romance reader, I picked and chose my way through this bag according to jacket blurbs.

This is the first book of Spark's I have read, and really I did think it was okay and he seems to be a solid writer who can make characters come alive for the reader. I just have to wonder about the purpose of starting at the end of the story. For me it made the outcome a little too predictable.

Still I was sniffling all the way through it, which would explain, I suppose, why I am not a regular romance reader. ;)

It was interesting, Patty, if you can get through the book already knowing how the story turns out. It's sort of an ill-fated lovers scenario, and I'm not really one for that. Like I said in the review, though, the author really puts you 'in touch' with each of the characters. You might really like it if you enjoy romance novels.

I don't know if I would like a book that starts at the end but it could be interesting.
