I feel that since the cost of heating our homes is still an issue, along with the high cost of products we use everyday in our homes, I needed to let everyone know that I myself have tried several alternate methods of helping to ease the pain of the cost of oil.
Last year, I bought 3 Delonghi oil heaters, at the price of 37.49 each, at Lowes.
This year , I bought 2 more. I was so impressed with the constant even heat that they produce in each room, that I decided to give a real try, by using only the Delonghi heaters in each room and keeping the thermostat off all day and only using the furnace at night. Of course, I shut off the heaters at night, and in the morning, I turned them back on, and because the house was still warm from the furnace , they kept the rooms comfortable all day. I also put one in the basement , so that my water pipes would not freeze during the day.
I was almost afraid to look at my electric bill when it came, but to my surprise, it was about the same as last year at this time, even a little lower, probably because it is a constant heat and no blowers. wIth a furnace the room cools down, so the furnace has to reheat everything in the room, with the delonghi oil heaters, you do not have that.
I would use them at night, but the directions that come with them, tells you not to leave unattended, so I do not. There is always the chance that the thermostat could go bad, as with any appliance.
