Dbx 286a Mic Preamp —

Hard to beat this as the first step up from naked mic podcasting. The difference in ease of listening without fatigue, and perceived loudness and clarity, is amazing compared to the mic alone.

The Aphex 230 can do more, arguably better, but at 3.5 times the price.

To get started in quality podcasting or voiceover narration work, this will get the job done without breaking the bank.

I just bought this unit but it hasn't arrived from delivery yet. I expect it in a day or two. I am using a studio projects mic w/an Alesis io|2 - usb powered. I was told I need the io|2 audio interface to get my mic into my computer. Is this true or will the DBX 286 eliminate the need for my io|2 interface? I am using this equipment for voice-over naration for software tutorials.
