I first heard David Sedaris over 10 years ago when he was reading his Santaland Diaries on NPR. From the very start, I was a fan. Imagine a 30-something man, new to NYC, making a living dressed as an elf. Then imagine this elf being a wise-ass (after all, Amy Sedaris is his sister) that, when he gets bored, will say something like "go look through the magic window and see Cher", but naturally the "magic window" was just a window that gave a view of Santa at the end of the line. The Santaland Diaries, like most of Sedaris' work, is a biographic mix of wry humor with realistic truths mixed in.... review »

Don't read this book if you are easily offended.  David Sedaris has a dry sense of humor, but a unique way of making you laugh out loud while simultaneously feeling somewhat appaled at the thought that what you are reading actually happened.  This was the first Sedaris book I read and I've read several more since.  Since the book is comprised of individual, yet related stories, you can easily read one of the stories at a time.  You will fly through it!

I've read most of David Sedaris' books and I really laugh out loud everytime. I'll read almost anything but tend to stay away from comedy because it's extremely hard to find something really funny. Sedaris is funny in a way that makes you think. The stories are generally short so it is a easy book to read as well. I'm buying this book for a couple of friends for Christmas. Why not give a gift of laughter?

I love David Sedaris so much.  I truly enjoy each of his books and simply DREAD the end of each one.  I recently received the collection on CD -- I swear to you that I made up reasons to get back in the car to listen to even more.  If you're smart, you'll buy this book. :P
