Intro
Looking for a different place to hold the youth football banquet this year, the organizers came up with Dave and Buster's. The youth football organization has only been around for a short time, and in the beginning years, the banquet consisted of pizzas in the cafeteria of the high school. The last two years it was at a local restaurant, and this year, they decided they wanted something different for the kids, as there really wasn't anything for the kids to do at the other places.

The Place

Dave and Buster's has locations all over, and for us far out in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, it was a little bit of a drive, but not too bad. It's a very large facility with different rooms all over, and looking around while walking through, you can see that they entertain a lot of parties here, whether it's banquets, birthday parties, etc. There's a very large game room here for the kids, as well as pool tables and shuffleboard. In fact the banquet room we were in filled up to capacity, so a smaller room around the corner was opened up for us. Once they were taking it down later, we saw how they cleverly come up with space when they need it. The buffet table was the shuffleboard, and the tables were pool tables, all covered up with white tablecloths.

The Food
Our banquet food was perfect for boys, with chips and salsa, rolls, macaroni salad, baked beans, corn on the cob, and chicken. They ran out of some of it before the late-arriving people had a chance to eat, but I have no idea whether that's the fault of Dave and Buster's, the banquet planners, or too many people showing up at the door that hadn't previously replied. Looking at some of the other banquets being set up, it seemed they had additional food with cheese and crackers as well, along with breaded chicken instead of the barbecued chicken quarters that we had. All of it tasted good, and the chips were homemade, meaning tortillas that were cut into strips and fried in oil.

The Service
It wasn't the best. Not that I saw a lot of service people standing around not doing anything at Dave and Buster's, but they didn't seem to be where we needed them all the time. We waited for awhile and had to talk loudly during our presentations until the microphone showed up, and once it did, it only worked for a short while before it pooped out. When I was looking for some places to sit, there were no servers around to ask for help in finding chairs. Later, at least an hour into our presentations, we had to ask to have the tables cleared so that the families weren't sitting around in the filth.

The Games
We hardly even saw the kids at all. They took off in bunches, headed for the game room. Each kid was given a card with some money already added to it for them to use to play the games. If their parents chose to, they could add more money on their cards to play. The games were the type where they won tickets, then could trade the tickets in for prizes. Every one of then came away happy, that's for sure.

The Bottom Line
I don't know if I would do a banquet there for adults, but I wouldn't hesitate to hold a banquet there that involved kids. They were the stars of the night. It was their banquet, and they should have what they want with games, food, etc.

Every year we go to a hockey tournament in that area and we always visit Dave & Buster's. IT's a great place to take the kids. Plus our hotel was right down the street!!
We never did the banquet though.]
Great review!
