This is a compilation album from when Danielle first signed up with major rock label Sire in the late '80's, which is mostly comprised of songs from her indie Inky Bloaters album (she only released one album on Sire, Blast the Humana Flower, after this made up of new material which had a much more pop feel than anything she had done before or after and was not well received by critics).

Danielle Dax began her artistic career as a painter, then formed the Lemon Kittens with Karl Blake before going solo with her musical career.  Her first few albums before Dark Adapted Eye came out were experimental with huge middle-eastern/indian influences with some hard rock thrown in here and there.  In interviews, Danielle would state her music wasn't specifically one style becuase the "didn't know what they were doing".  Well, Danielle and her cohorts certainly created fantastic music for not knowing what they were doing, blessing in disguise if you will.

Since her music is so diverse, it is difficult to explain, and you really do need to be open minded, as if you like one type of music and that's it--Danielle will probably not be for you.  And if you want only love songs or relationship songs, you won't find that with Danielle's music.  That is not something she dwells upon with every song, her lyrics are interesting and provocative, dwelling on many different subjects.  If you wish to listen to a few of her songs, check out http://myspace.com/ddax.  Well worth a listen at least!
