I'm a college Senior in Business Administration that has had a problem with IBS since I was around seven years old.
I've tried EVERYTHING out there to try and fix this problem, re-arranging my meals, eating differently, trying to adjust stress levels, trying pre-biotics (like Align), going to a GI, as well as going onto medications like Bentyl and Zantac.
Well, all I can tell you, is that all of the above methods suck.
Last Fall, I decided to try Activia.
I saw the commercials, read up on a ton of reviews, I figured, "Why not?"
I purchased enough to eat everyday for quite some time, and here's what I have to say about this product:
Activia is a product, and it does work. However, it is NOT a miracle cure.
When you first start taking Activia, it can have some side-effects, you have to be prepared for this.
The probiotic (Bifidus Regularis) has to get into your system and do what you're asking of it, if that means expelling some of the junk in your system, so be it.
It can take a weaker stomach a few days to get used to ingesting this product. I know when I started, the first few days made me feel a bit queasy. However, I was determined to give it the fair shot the product deserved.
After around three days, I wasn't afraid to go out and have fun anymore. I was able to go to class without having to rush to the bathroom every 5 minutes.
I was able to make plans to go out to dinner, and actually eat a full meal and enjoy my time at the restaurant without being interrupted by nature's call.
However, I believe I made a crucial mistake after taking the product.
I got one of those "IBS Stomach aches" I would say .... 2 or 3 months into taking the product.... and well... I gave up on it completely, forgetting the good times.
Since then, I went back to the lifestyle of living under the whims of my stomach.
On a really rough day (roughly a year from when I started taking it), stuck in bed from feeling ill, I saw the infamous Jamie Lee Curtis in her commercial.
I decided to try Activia again.
This time around, they have a new Fiber version.
The Fiber version is just like classic, but it has some cereal pieces mixed in. They're hardly noticeable, and you know fiber helps regulate digestion as well.
I'm about 4 days into trying Activia again, and so far so good.
The only thing you need to be conscious of, is that missing a day of Activia can leave you feeling a little rough.... You are sort of locked into always having it around... But if it gets you your life back, it's totally worth it.
In closing, a final tip to anyone else suffering from some IBS woes...
Make a calendar in excel, fill out the calendar with what you ate during the day, and if you felt ill at all. Use this to diagnose problem foods.
Another beneficial thing to include in the calendar, is any events that could be perceived as stressful, whether they be upcoming, or occurring on that day.
Diagnose your own stomach problem, doctors can rarely help without sticking you with tubes.
