Daily Herald —

Intro
Here in the Chicago suburbs, we get a variety of newspapers to subscribe to. I think throughout the years, I've subscribed to them all at one time or another, but my favorite by far is the Daily Herald. It has everything that I personally look for in a newspaper.

The Paper
I read the paper every morning, along with my bowl of cereal and cup of tea, and I have only a certain amount of time, as many others do, to read what I want to, before I get going with my day. I want to know what's going on in the world, the country, and my area. I want to know what's going on in the entertainment world, and during football season, I want to know what my Chicago Bears are doing.

If I read  one of the Chicago papers, I get too much general news, and don't get to find out anything that is happening locally in the Northwest suburbs of the Fox Valley. If I read one of the smaller local papers, I get a lot of local news, as far as who is getting arrested for what, who died, what the local government is doing, etc. This is great, but I don't get enough news about what is going on in the rest of the world, other than our tiny little corner of it.

Yet, when I read the Daily Herald, every day I am treated to the larger news of what is happening in the country and world, some of which I ignore, and the local news as far as who is getting arrested for what and who died, and again, some of which I ignore. I get a back page on the front section that tells me what all the big entertainment news is that day, although the reality show updates I don't always appreciate, as some times I haven't had a chance to watch them on my TIVO yet. During football season I get to read how my Chicago Bears are doing as well as how the local high school teams are doing. My son gets to read the comics, and my daughter grabs the Business section. She likes to read the weather on the back page of that section.

Value
A one-year subscription is under $100, at $98.80, not bad for getting all the news you need in one quick place. To me, it's money well spent to find out what's going on with my local school district, what's going on in the entertainment world, and what's going on in politics at a national level.
