Dad's Pregnant Too! —

Dad's Pregnant Too! is th first edition of a pregnancy book from a guy's perspective geared towards fathers-to-be written by Harlem Cohen.

The information is well researched set with some humorous tones. I can see how this book would keep a guy's attention. Much of Mr. Cohen's book covers quite a variety of different scenarios. I was surprised at how much this book covers; not just informationally, but the emotional needs and supportiveness suggestions given.

I like that Mr. Cohen not only collected doctoral interviews, but also information given by dads, moms and parents-to-be. That was probably what gave this book edge it needed, with respect to sharing personal stories of emotional, hormonal and support experiences, that many pregnancy books don't tell you about.

The author discusses the various delivery options, including birthing centers, home birthes, midwives and doulas. He even goes so far as to discuss the necessary health insurance coverage options, another edge other books don't mention.

I did find myself reflecting back on my pregnancy and birthing experience while reading this book, which made the book a touching read.

The only con I kind of have is the title of the book, Dad's Pregnant Too!, because, while men are going to have a baby too, Dad's Not Pregnant Too! Want to tick your pregnant wife off? Act like your as pregnant as she is! I garantee you don't want to make your wife irritable in this way! Don't get me wrong, pregnant mothers want the father-to-be to be involved, active, ask questions and be supportive, but men have no clue how the hormonally charge emotions effect a pregnant woman's mind, nor should they try. It's too complex for men to apprehend which is, as Mr. Cohen mentions in his book, why men aren't equipt to carry a baby. However, I do get why the author titled his book that way: to attract men to the subject matter.

I recommend for pregnant women, whether first time mothers or experienced ones, get Dad's Pregnant Too! by Harlem Cohen as restroom reading for the fathers-to-be in their lives. I truly think you'll have a more prepared and more supportive husband during your pregnancy upon them reading Dad's Pregnant Too! Should you happen to be a father-to-be reading this review, I suggest you pick up this read. The more information you have, the more supportive you'll be to your pregnant counter-part and, thus, the easier her pregnancy will be for both of you!

In response to jasyjen's comment from Mar 6, 2009 at 3:19PM:

I know, right? I loved how supportive my hubby was when I was pregnant, but, I'll tell you, if he ever acted pregnant himself (he never did), I would have gotten angry. Men have NO idea what emotions/hormones/chemical reactions/thoughts go through a woman's mind when she's pregnant. They shouldn't even try to. I do agree with him on his opinion that if the guy were to be pregnant, he'd be getting into physical fights. Cause their were times I wanted to and restrained myself. . . And I was one who mostly enjoyed my pregnancy, but I still had certain thoughts. I'm convinced that even when a couple is ready for a baby, they're never really ready.

I read this too. I thought the information was very helpful, but I didn't like the title either. I thought to myself, "NO HE'S NOT!!!" LOL

Well, if the fertility gods are smiling upon you then you may need to give this book to your hubby so he will know how to get thru a second pregnancy. Great review and just remember that there are many praying for you to have that second baby ;+)

I've heard about this book. It sounds like an interesting read. I agree, men don't have a glue about how the female hormones work and how it effects us especially when we are pregnant. Thanks for sharing. =)
