DK Amazing Animals CD-Rom Software

My daughter loves the DK (Dorling Kindersley) non-fiction books and both of my children enjoy Animal Planet so I decided to try out the DK Amazing Animals CD-Rom Software.  DK Amazing Animals CD-Rom software works with Windows or Mac and is recommended for ages 6-9.  I agree with that age window.

In Amazing Animals, a host, Henry the Lizard, guides kids through ten games and activities.  Some of the games are familiar like puzzles and others are unique like the pixalator.  For each game kids can choose 1 or 2 players and from three levels: easy, harder, hardest.

There are dozens of videos of animals in their natural habitats.  My kids loved the animal movies.  There are also creative projects to print like masks, invitations, postcards or even animal business cards. 

DK Amazing Animals includes a bonus disc “Zoofari Games” that has puzzles, word searches, coloring books and animals themed games.

The only thing I don’t really like about this CD-Rom is that when my youngest finishes an activity, it will say something to the effect of  “Too bad.  You didn’t earn enough points to get a sticker.”  I’d prefer that if they don’t earn it, just don’t mention it.  Other than that quirk, I am really pleased with this computer software.

The good news is that both of my kids will choose this software and play it until Mom has to kick them off of the computer.  The fact that they can play it together is an added bonus.
