Intro — For years we have hated our cable company, yet other choices didn't exist for us. Of course, the cable company knew it, and used it to their advantage with outrageous fees and a terrible service. We talked about making a switch to a satellite dish for a few years, and once we finally… read full review »

Five years ago we installed DirectTV.  To be honest, I am not even sure why.  We purchased the Sony DirectTV/Tivo receiver and the lifetime package to Tivo.  I have spent at least 20 hours of my life on the phone with DirectTV trying to diagnose why our signal is… read full review »

When the time came to make a choice on a cable provider, the choice was actually rather simple for me. — With Comcast's rates being out of control, not to mention the horrible experiences I had seen my parents have with them, DirecTV was the only choice.  I had heard mostly good things about them, and when comparing their rates to Comcast's, it wasn't much of a competition.  DirecTV blew them away. — DirecTV offers up 3 or 4 different packages, starting out with the very basic, moving up to the mid and high mid packages, and then finally, of course, their "gold" package… read full review »

After serving in the Army for 20 years--during most of which I was overseas and did not get regular TV--I decided that once I retired I would not be denied the opportunity to watch my favorite team or show so I went all-in with cable.  When we moved to the country where there is no cable, I was forced to learn about sattelite TV.  Well, I was thrilled with the initial contacts of Direct TV and their plans so I chose them over Dish.  The initial package was a bit cheaper and installation was good.  That is where the "good ended."  There are seldome problems, but when… read full review »

I'm like everyone else. I want the most bang for the buck. I had a series 1 Tivo and loved it. It was getting very long in the tooth. Also my dislike of Comcast was growing (especially the high $$ for a lot of channels I don't care a wit about). — I decided to try DirecTV since it had: — 1. Lower cost for a similiar number and selection of channels. — 2. HD channels. — 3. Tivo-like DVR. — #1 and #2 turned out to be true. But there is no way you can compare thier DVR to Tivo. It's inferior in every way. It has a very unintuitive menu… read full review »

I went with Direct Tv because the price was better than cable and I wanted to give Verizon a try with their bundle package. Well, it took three times out to the house to get it working properly and then every time there is a storm we lose our satelitte signal. We've missed the end of several shows and particularly the season finale of "So You Think You Can Dance" which was a huge disappointment to my three girls. When I talked to my neighbor whether her cable went out, it didn't! So my biggest fear about satelitte tv has been proven true...unreliable, especially during bad… read full review »

I have always had cable growing up. I always had cable at other places I lived until I moved in with my now husband and he was a dish lover. — At first, I couldn't really get used to the fact that we couldn't get our local channels on the dish. I got even more frustrated when all the shows that I loved to watch were on network TV and my Tivo couldn't record them because, again, we didn't have local channels on the dish. — Fast-forward to a year ago. We were moving to our new home and decided to extend our contract in order to get another DVR (which was NOTHING like our… read full review »

I have had Directv for about 8 years now and have never had any problems until we tried to upgrade to HD. What a fiasco! After 2 hours (literally) on the phone with customer service, I finally got what I wanted but it caused me alot of stress in the meantime. (Really long story).  I hate that they offer new customers the sun and moon and basically tell their existing customers to go pound rock salt---until you threaten--I MEAN REALLY THREATEN--to discontinue service and then they backtrack. The problem is, I hate Dish network more and I hate cable most of all.  I like the channel… read full review »

I recommend DTV to anyone!  I like the variety of channels and package deals.  I can order movies from the click of the remote and I am addicted to my DVR service.  I never need to know the schedule I come home and simply check to see what I have captured.  The only draw back is the weather does cause interruptions in service.  I live in TX and in the spring when we have storms the service is gone.  Overall my customer servivce experience and overall service experience is very… read full review »

I am so sorry that I ever had DirecTV put in.  One week after it was connected, it went out and it took them 8 days to come fix it.  When the dish fell off the house, they wanted to come in a week because I hadn't scheduled a service call.    Every time the wind blows, we lose our signal.  Is customer service any help?  NO.  I can't wait until my year is up with them. … read full review »

The only reason we selected DirecTV and the only reason we've stuck with it as long as we have was the NFL ticket.  The NFL ticket was our only real option for watching our home team when we are not in the local market.  But our experience has consisted of one technical headache after another followed by incredibly poor customer support. — — Our first hurdle happened at the initial install about three years ago.  We had two standalone TiVo's networked together, but the DirecTV sattelite receivers didn't respond very well to TiVo signals sent to change the… read full review »

I have been with DirecTV for over 6 years now. I heard the bad stories about the signal going out when it rains or snows, but I haven't had much of a problem with that. Mine will go out during a major thunderstorm, but not for just rain or snow. — — At the time I started my service, they offered me their most expensive package for $44.99 a month for four months. I'm no fool, I took that deal. I had a standard definition receiver and round dish installed with no problems. Unfortunately, I was not able to receive local channels (and this lasted for approximately 2 years). … read full review »

We used to subscribe to cable and then switched to DirecTV.  We started receiving more channels, including the ones we normally watch not just useless channels that don't interest us, and at a lower price.  It is true that they charge an extra $5 per additional TV to hook up, but even with the surcharge our rate decreased from cable.  We paid almost $60/mo for cable and about $50 for directv on three TVs whereas with cable we only had it on one set. —  The stories about losing reception in bad weather are overblown.  We live in the northeast and only… read full review »

I didn't have cable or satelite or anything but old rabbit ears on my TV for about 10 years.  I decided to get satelite TV since my girlfriend would be moving in soon and there was a bundle offer with AT&T.  I already had AT&T for home phone, internet & cell phone, so I figured it would be a good deal to bundle (plus the cash back bonus too).  I've had it now for a few months and really love the channel selection and the fact that you can pick your favorite channels and only scroll through those (and thus skip over all the pay per views, etc.).  The installation service… read full review »

I've not had any major problems with my DirecTV service or receivers. They work fine, though I did have to replace my first dual tuner with another one. The way it work is fine, however if you do a lot of DVR recording, it does act up frequently. It records things you didn't setup. Rarely ever has it not recorded what we did setup. — — Picture quality is great. Our one choice town for cable service has very bad reception and fairly poor quality and high prices. — — Living in a smaller town you do have fewer choices. We've been with Both Dish and now DirecTV. Both… read full review »
