After serving in the Army for 20 years--during most of which I was overseas and did not get regular TV--I decided that once I retired I would not be denied the opportunity to watch my favorite team or show so I went all-in with cable.  When we moved to the country where there is no cable, I was forced to learn about sattelite TV.  Well, I was thrilled with the initial contacts of Direct TV and their plans so I chose them over Dish.  The initial package was a bit cheaper and installation was good.  That is where the "good ended."  There are seldome problems, but when there are, you will spend your life on hold.  In addition to that, DTV contracts with local providers to do a lot of their service and they do not check or police up on them at all.  Once the service request is filed by DTV, you are at the mercy of that local contractor.  Sometimes they show and do a little work, sometimes they do not--and DTV really doen't care, and doesn't know unless YOU call them to tell them.  If you call and complain they will reset the appointment and if you REALLY complain they will offer you a small credit.  If you don't work or have a life and have nothing to do but sit around on several days and wait to see if the technician shows, this might be good for you.  However, if you work and time is money, that is not such a good thing.  It literally took me MONTHS to get some work done.  That all said, the packages are pretty good and the Digital Video Recorders (I have one that is TiVo brand that I love and a DTV one that is okay) are great!  I would choose cable if I had a choice.

I could not agree with you more! We have been a customer for over five years and have had the same problems. I was in customer service in the travel industry for over 20 years, I can not believe that a company as large as Direct has such a poor customer service record. You would be out of business in the travel industry if you had this kind of service! I am with you the packages and prices are good. We have the Hughes internet service and they are just a bad. We have no choice because we travel in our work and have to have this type of service. Good Luck!
