So your scalp is itchy, maybe with sore bumps and/or dandruff. Any or all of these symptoms add up to seborrheic dermatitis. And, as far as I was concerned, nothing seemed to relieve this pesky condition for very long, if at all.
Finally, after a number of office visits, my dermatologist recommended switching out several effective shampoos. "Use one until it stops working," Dr. D. said, "then go to the next and the next and back to the first..." etc. "Some people say this works," he added hopefully.
Dr. D. sent me home with shampoo samples, most of which didn't work. He also gave me a tiny bottle of DHS Zinc Shampoo. The DHS Zinc formula contains 2% zinc. SHAKE IT FIRST. (I have trouble remembering to do that.) DHS Zinc's kind of chalky out of the bottle, but lathers sufficiently for you to work it over your scalp and through your hair. Once there, you leave it on for several minutes, rinse, and repeat.
DHS Zinc actually gives my fine hair a little more body. It works equally well on treated or on non-treated hair. When I realized that DHS Zinc quieted my scalp and prevented a recurrence of symptoms between shampoos, I headed for Target, then Walgreen's ready to invest in a bigger bottle of DHS.
Any ideas I had about immediately finding DHS Zinc, however, were soon quashed. Even in the big city, this specialty shampoo plays hard to get. I went online, and there it was. $16 plus $6 for shipping of a 12-oz bottle at one place. $18 plus $5 for shipping at another. Everyone wanted a big share of the pie.
I doggedly kept up the search. Then, finally, I discovered DermStore.com with 14 ounces of DHS Zinc for the price of 12 AND free standard shipping on all orders. Total price? $16.94 including samples of other products sold at DermStore.com
My first three favorite treatment shampoos have been easy to find. One is a great builld-up remover. Two are specialty namebrands, and one is a specialty generic. For more information on these products and the way they are used, please check out:
