The worlds of gaming and comic books aren't much different from each other but having never found a successful marriage until WizKids developed HeroClix back in 2002. It began with Marvel HeroClix: Infinity Challenge featuring miniature versions of popular and obscure Marvel Comics characters for game playing. All the statistics, powers and abilities needed for gameplay were founded on the character's dial so no extra charts were needed. Each figure is about 2-inches high and sculpted nicely to represent these characters. DC HeroClix: Hypertime followed later that year depicting favourite characters.

The objective is to construct teams using these characters depending on the point value of the game (ie: 100 point games, 200 point games, 300 point games, and so on). Each character has a designated point value so when constructing a team, you cannot go over the maximum total for team construction (whatever point value is agreed upon by the players).

Over the years, many sets and new ways of presenting them have been made. One set that put fans in a frenzy was the 2006 DC HeroClix: Green Lantern Corps Collector's Set featuring different members of the fabled Green Lantern Corps together in one collection.

Usually, when a new series is released, people need to buy "booster packs" in order to complete the collection. Each booster pack contains four (or five depending on which set) randomly inserted characters. Just like trading cards, it's hard to tell what pieces one is going to receive from each pack, which eventually leads to a lot of money being spent just trying to complete a collection. The Green Lantern Corps Collector's Set eliminates that problem.

The packaging allows people to see exactly all the characters that are included in this set. The seven characters included are:

  • Rookie G'nort (#001)
  • Experienced Ch'p (#002)
  • Unique Abin Sur (#003)
  • Veteran Arisia (#004)
  • Experienced Katma Tui (#005)
  • Unique Ganthet (#006)
  • Experienced Tomar-Re (#007)

This is a great mix of characters and different experience levels. One figure in particular that is of real interest is Ganthet, one of the Guardians of the Universe and leader of the Green Lantern Corps. His point value of 286 is staggering making him immensely powerful, as he should be. He, along with Abin Sur, is also one of the coveted "Unique" figures. In a regular booster pack, it's really hard to find one of these figures so to have two available like this in a collected set is quite a bonus for everyone.

Another added bonus is the inclusion of a Feat Card. These were later additions to the game to create more interest in game situations. This particular set comes with the Construct feat card. When constructing a team, this works like adding a team member as it is given a designated point value, in this case 14 points. This has to be taken into consideration when building a team as to whether or not you need to use this.

I like these sets because it allows players to be at an even playing field. Plus, everything is available in one set without having to go out and search for missing game pieces. The price is reasonable at around $20-$25. I do like the thrill of the hunt trying to complete a collection but at the same time, too, I also want everything all at once. DC HeroClix: Green Lantern Corps Collector's Set satisfies the latter allowing players to construct a ready-made Green Lantern Corps force and sending them into battle. After all, all members of the Corps are selected because they have the ability to overcome great fear so they shouldn't have a problem heading into battle against any opponent. Beware their power...  Green Lantern's light!

Nice info in the review! My girls are into stuffed animals, princesses and Barbies right now, but I still like to read about what some of others are interested in!
