D-link DIR-615 worst router I ever had

1

I upgrade my router to D-link DIR-615 N router from my D-link G router.  The speed is not much of a different than my G router.  However, it has driven me crazy for it's instability to keep the connection.  I have to manually connect to the ISP every time I turn on my computer.  Either my computer is not able to detect any signal or my computer was not assign any IP address.  It constantly drop the connection while you are surfing online.  Moreover, it is not compatible with my VOIP phone.  Everytime, I use my phone and my computer internet connection drops.  Contacted my VOIP service, they said they have issue with D-link router firmware.  Contacted D-link customer service, they refused to do anything.  They won't replace a different model as well even they acknowledge it is their firmware problem.  I am so done with D-link, I will not buy any D-link router in my near future.  If you know how to flash the firmware to use DD-WRT, you may consider buying this router to use 3rd party firmware.  Otherwise, this router is useless.  I would not recommend this router at all.

Easy to install!

I recently set up my FIRST wireless router and I am loving it, it works with both computers, my laptop and my kindle! I had always had someone else come in and set up these things but there was no one around this time, so I did it myself, and I am glad! The instructions were easy to understand and for a person who had never set up anything like that before it was great! My only drawback it only works inside the house and in certain rooms but that's a small drawback. I have no idea about speed but it sure works with our family. with two computers plus the laptop running I haven't noticed a problem in speed It doesn't take up to much room on the desk, and with a limited small desk this was a BIG plus, it sits behind the computer out of the way and I hardly know it's there most of the time. if this is your first computer and or first router I am sure you will be able to set this up following the instructions and simple guides. There is also help on-line if you need it. If you shop around this is priced right, of course you have to shop around for just about anything anymore. I highly recommend this router. I set it up all by myself with no help and if I can do that anyone can do it!

Fast but problematic

The router was easy to hook up and I like it...... for a little while. After a while I couldn't see other computers on my network. Then it seemed like everyday I had to reset my router. It is still happening and I have called d-link twice. The first time it worked then when I moved I called and they said a software update would work and it didn't. I would recommend a plug and play router or something more user friendly. I am disappointed in this router and kinda want it to stop working so I have an excuse to buy a new one :)

This D-Link Router has been reliable for years!

I purchased this wireless router in 2007 when we moved to our first apartment.  We didn't have a huge place and we wanted something that would allow us to access both of our laptops while we were watching TV, etc. so we purchased this.  We had tried a Linksys model and only had trouble, so we were hoping this would be much more user-friendly and not give us any problems.  That was over 3 years ago, and we are still using it!  This is a very reliable router with a strong signal.  It installs easily on both our PC and Mac laptops and has always produced a clear and strong connection.  I have also appreciated the security password option and the easy install disc that comes with it.  We did have a bad power outlet that shorted one of the connections inside it this past year, but I called D-Link and they replaced it free of charge, even though it had been bought over a year ago and was out of warranty!

Need a router? Keep looking...

When I first set up the D-Link DIR-615 router, it worked really well.  Then six months later (which was a couple of weeks ago now) it just stopped working.  I could only connect to the internet if I bypassed the router and hooked up directly to the modem.  Having gotten used to wireless internet, this was inconvenient, to say the least.  It was still under warranty, so I called their customer service technical help, and had the worst possible experience--I'm still trying to get over that one.  I was on the phone with them for a total of five hours.  They kept having me try different things to get the router to work (which I'd already tried), then they'd have me hang up and try something or get something, and then call back.  Then when I'd call back, we'd be back to square one--going through all the things we just tried.  When every option was thoroughly exhausted (not to mention my exhaustion), they finally agreed to give me a return authorization to get a new router.  I've returned the old one and am waiting for the new one to come--and really hoping my second experience with this router and with D-Link will be better than the first.

Great for price

I had been looking into routers for some time now and realized that it was time to upgrage to the n  from my old g. The first thing that i looked for was a good quality router that would last for some time. This router was not only at a good price but also built to last. It has a pretty sleek body and the two antennas on the back are rather durable. Also the range of this router is amazing. I was able to get a signal two houses down. One thing that i didnt like was that it didnt have a very good security setup. If this is your first router i strongly recommend that you protect your network. Besides the  body of this system it seemed to have a good design internally as well. Ive left it on for hours with no trouble as far as it overheating. As a last note i will say that at times the router will dissconnect from my laptop causing a hassle but it doesnt happen often and could simply be my laptop. Overall this is a great product as an upgrade or if your setting up a network for the first time.

D-Link Dir-615. I bought two of these routers. I have no problems with this items. When I needed help i just called and they were their for me. I didn't have to be a computer wiz to be able to do what they asked me to do to help me with setup. I would buy this item again and again.

Worth your money

When I got my laptop, I needed a wireless router. I read some reviews and information on several different routers. I didn't need one with a big range (I live in a small place), but I didn't want one that was crap-then I would have to buy twice. So I came across the 'D-Link Wireless N Router (DIR-615), and I've heard many good things about this product. I went to Futureshop, got it, and loved it! The instructions were pretty easy to follow, took about 15-30 minutes. Hadn't had a problem with it yet!

Get one that works

1

I was persuaded to spend twice the money on a 'reliable' router rather than buy a cheap one for less than half the price. What a total waste of money!!! I tried to use the instalation CD provided but cannot get further than popup window saying "Click'n Connect can't discover the router. Please check the cable connection and make sure the Router is powered on." OK, I have tried using each of the ports and with 3 different cables (including the one supplied with the router) and cannot get past this. There is no help in the online manual or in the (very limited) trouble shooting guide supplied with it. My advice to anyone considering buying this. DON'T BOTHER. Go for something cheap and cheerful that may work.

D-Link customer NO service ruined this product for me.

The **D-Link 615 wireless router** was bought mainly for times when our sons are home with their laptops and for the occasional day my husband decides to work from home.  **Easy to Install:**I installed this product in November of last year.  It was easy to install- I just followed the instructions on the CD included with the router.  The two antennas bounce multiple wireless signals off of ceilings and walls to help eliminate dead zones.  **Great Coverage:**The router provided excellent coverage in our large two story home.  It even worked outside on the deck which is a wonderful place to be I might add.  It also came with software that helps troubleshoot any connection problems.**Customer Service Experience:**Some time in the spring the router started acting up.  I tried everything recommended to me.  After multiple calls to the customer service department [product brags about 24/7 support] I still was not able to resolve the issue.  Each time I called I got someone who barely spoke English and they all seemed to be following a script.  I was told to do the same thing over and over.  Finally, I suggested that they just replace the router.  It was, after-all under warranty.  No one in the customer service department would accept that idea.  I was finally told that I could send it in [at my expense] and have it refurbished.  At this point I had lost faith in the company.I went online and discovered that my experience was not unusual.  With a recommendation from a fellow reviewer I bought a different router and have been happy with it so far.**Summary:**I am surprised that the D-Link company cares so little for its customers.  This had been our third D-Link and we realize that every product can have an occasional lemon.  With just a little customer service we would still be D-Link owners.  Instead, they have lost our business forever and I am here writing a review about the experience!  :-)
