Cycle Works -- Cruise Control —

While at the Street/Bike Rally in Old Shawneetown, Illinois last weekend a company by the name of Cycle Works had a booth set up. They do LED Lighting, Air Horns and Cruise Controls for motorcycles. They took the basics of the Harley Factory Cruise Control and improved on the design by adding a lever that is adjustable as opposed to a thumb wheel setup for setting the speed. Cycle Works travels to many bike and street rally's across the country.

Cycle Works Cruise Control

They make this for Harley and most metric bikes providing that the two throttle control cables come out the bottom of the throttle housing. By drilling out one screw hole and tapping new threads into it the main part simply screws into the housing and after adjusting the tension you can then set the speed by pushing the lever forward to set your speed and flipping it back to release it. There is a lever on the bottom that is spring loaded so you can fine tune the lever to your comfort level.

It was a 112 mile ride there and without it my right wrist and hand were sore and stiff. Once installed the ride back was great using the cruise control and giving my right hand and wrist a break. Resting your clutch hand has always been easy as you only use it to shift but your throttle hand would still get sore. With the cruise control that is no longer a problem.

The inner workings of their cruise control use a shoe to press against the throttle housing that like a brake shoe on your vehicle moves outward to lock it in place. Most other after market cruise controls use a plastic tip that is not replaceable. This one however is available at any Harley Davidson dealer for $1 each, so that makes this one superior to 99% of the others out there on the market.

They make ones that are electronically controlled to release when the front brake is used but at $165 and up plus installation it was a bit too steep for my budget. This Cycle Works unit was $95 installed and was well worth the price I paid for it.

Bottom Line

Yeah I know you're thinking that this Redneck is getting spoiled and you're 110% right...lol At least now I can enjoy my long rides even more and my throttle hand and wrist won't take such a beating by constantly having to apply pressure to maintain speed on Lil' Blue

Are you heading to Sturgis, S.D? I heard ''a few'' bikers will be there this week!

Isn't it strange how one little detail can make all the difference? If you ever get to this neck of the woods, you should check ouit the big Harley Davidson place in Berwyn, Illinois. Berwyn is a big Harley town.

About every 5 miles or so I can now not only get circulation in my left hand and wrist but now I can do my right hand and wrist as well. People are not used to seeing it, so they do double takes...lol ;)

Thanks Laurie! I know it made my long ride much better and I hope it helps others to enjoy riding more. My son in law has a Harley but likes my cruise control better than his....lol ;)

Spoiled is good. Repeat that over and over. It can be overdone, but you're a great guy. You deserve some fun!
