Cyber Defender Anti-Spyware —

Good grief. When I Google or Yahoo or even got to Suite 101 and click on links, I go to sales pages or the AT&T link page. It seems I have a browser hijacker and more, and Norton AntiVirus does not fix it, unless I pay them $139.99 or so they tell me.

I checked online, and Cyber Defender has 5 stars and 95% satisfaction. The link does not go to the page to see what actual users rate. What's up with that. And, another red flag is that Cyber Defender is marked, at the top of that list, as sponsored. Not cool.

Desperate, I decided to try he free "scan." The operative word here is SCAN or perhaps that should be SCAM. I hit that download, and Cyber Defender did, for sure, do something on my computer.

Then, I got a screen that notes I have issues. Well, duh . . . yes I do.

So, you see, it's a scan but not a fix. You don't get something for nothing. Fine. The advertising is very misleading I think. Or, perhaps I'm a sucker.

My computer not only had the brower hijack trojan (I think) but also two (yes - two) very annoying pop ups related to Cyber Defender. First, there was one in the middle of the screen that came up every time I booted up (and slowed the compter way down - 10 minutes to start up at least). On top of that, a little suprise box came up off the bottom tool bar just every little bit. Super annoying. The purpose of these boxes was clearly to sell me services, and they really bogged the computer down - slow as it is with that browser problem already.

I read up and figured out what Microsoft did with the Add/Remove program button in the control panel on Vista. So annoying. They renamed it. So, I went in and found Cyber Defender, and I think I got rid of that. In any case, I'm not getting the pop up windows now, and start up is not quite as slow.

If I felt sure that Cyber Defender would fix the trojan or virus, that's one thing. I paid for a similar service a few years back that did not correct the problem. So, I was out that money plus what it cost to take the computer to the shop. I didn't want to get ripped off again. With those pop up windows and the way Cyber Defender slowed down my computer, I didn't see giving them my credit card info.

So, I'm back to sqaure one on the computer problem, and Cyber Defender just added to my problem and took up a lot of time to get rid of yet more online junk.

You lucked out by not purchasing Cyber defender. I am going to tell you what you missed out on. I downloaded it and purchased the 1 year subscription because it said I had 22 low risk infections and one high risk infection. After i purchased the program it only removed the 22 low risk infections and did not remove the high risk infection. Now the cyberdefender is not protecting my computer from infections and is not removing infections. Cyber defender is a big waste of money and you did the right thing by not purchasing it. I would recommend that you upgrade the RAM memory on your computer to speed up the performance.

Anti-virus and anti-spyware is a swamp into which only the bravest dare to wade. The sad thing is how much faster our computers would be if they didn't have to run all that crap.

Thanks for the warning!
