Many of you have probably read some of my vacation reviews and know I was walking mosquito and chigger bait. I forgot to bring my usual repellent with me so I stopped and bought some before I went camping. I found a new bottle that contains Picaridin instead of DEET so I thought I would give it a try. My daughter being pregnant is not allowed to use any DEET products so I figured we could share a bottle of this new Cutter Advanced with Picaridin.

Cutter Advanced with Picaridin

The bottle is 6oz and is a non aerosol spray that is very easy to apply and best of all there is no harsh smell to irritate your nose. We were camped about 100 yards from the river so protection was a must unless we wanted to get eaten alive. My daughter and I covered ourselves real good and figured we would be safe.

No such luck for me as the first day I had a bunch of skeeter bites even after using this new safer repellent. My daughter had only one or two bites and they were at the nape of her neck but we both still got bit. I figured maybe because I was sweating when I put it on that maybe the sweat was preventing it from working. So the next morning I put more on after my morning shower......Nope still no luck, I was being dive bombed constantly, yet my daughter was not getting bit at all!

So off to the store I went and bought my usual DEET flavored spray and after that I was fine the rest of the weekend. The next week I went to my youngest daughters house and she has a place surrounded by woods and tall grass and seems to have a very large population of chiggers! I decided to give the Picaridin spray another shot because I liked that it had no smell to it.

Unfortunately the chiggers had a field day with me and I was covered with very irritating bites that first day. Needless to say I went back to my DEET flavored spray and after that I was fine.

Ingredients and Warnings

Contains 7% Picaridin

Will cause moderate eye irritation! Avoid contact with eyes or clothing and wash hands before eating, drinking, handling food or snacks including gum and using the bathroom!

This is supposed to repel Mosquito's, Chiggers, Biting Flies, No-See-Ums, Gnats and Fleas

Bottom Line

It didn't work for me and only moderately for my daughter but in all fairness I still must give it 3 stars as it is safer than DEET products. I only apply DEET products once a day and only on rare occasions more than 1 day a week so I don't feel severely threatened. However if DEET concerns you then give this Cutter Advanced with Picaridin a try and see if it works for you.

Face it Ron...the mosquitoes just can't get enough of you. It'll take more than Picaridin to keep them from your embrace.LOL

NOTHING works for me. I don't even bother now. I know I'm too sweet for the mosquitoes to resist so I just sit there and take it like a man. Er...a woman. A tough one with a high tolerance for itchy bites.

Now you know why I used DEET here in GA where chiggers and skeeters were invented. ;>

Thanks for the warning. I think I'll stick with what I know works for me and not try this product.
