Cutco Knives —

You will never see anyone who makes a living with thier knives use cutco.
they steel their knives daily, hone them weekly

They are marketed to brides with money to spend on the new nest.

Direct marketing is an expesive way tell sell anything, A huge amount of the sales price goes into the selling comission  not the product.

If you can afford cotco go buy a good steel and Tri stone, and learn to use them.

If you are real serious get a wet grinding system,

when you send your child to cooking school , don't buy them cutco knives

In response to gbennettjr's comment from Aug 6, 2009 at 2:12PM:

Yes, in fact all companies spend 50-60% of their budget just to advertise and high commission sales reps up to 50% is standard, just part of marketing costs. Cutco also has to be able to replace everything they make at no cost, so rest of markup goes into future replacements and rest of cogs or cost of doing business. Try taking a few business courses at the college level might help you understand this.

I would say the same thing about stores, the stores mark up the price, CUTCO does not advertise, so they can keep the price down that way as well. CUTCO reps and managers invest a lot of time to demo these products so they should get something in return, it is called a career.

What busy Mom has time to sharpen her knives constantly? Cutco holds it edge for 7 to 10 years, but a rep will sharpen them for free as often as you want. Their target market is housewives, not new brides, because housewives and cooking moms who use knives all the time know real value when they see it. Their marketing approach saves them money by cutting out the middle man. And many restaraunts do use Cutco. Definitely a great investment.

Cutco makes sharpening tools as well, and a sales rep will come to your home and sharpen your knives if needed. Or, you can send them in to the factory to be resharpened.

If you can afford cutco...get it...because you won't need to sharpen them every time you use them...like many other knives out there.
