I have used George Foreman, Procter Silex, and Hamilton Beach Grills in the past. They were good but I found that they often lost their finish. I recently purchased a Cuisinart Griddler hoping that it would stand up to the test of time. I have only had it for a couple months but it does seem to be very well constructed. It has a stainless steel top and removable grill plates. It can be used as a grill or a panini press. It comes with 2 sets of plates. One set is for grilling and the other is for a griddle.
