Very good especially for the price!

This was just a normal rice cooker but for such a low price you can't go wrong. I use it to cook rice, steam veggies, and even cook meat. I usually put everything in it and turn it on so that my meal is ready for when I come home. I highly recommend this cooker.

We love it as a steamer - Rice Cooker? Not so much!

This unit is large in capacity and versatile. The brand and finish are nice - the rice cooking is somewhat questionable however - uneven at times. Performance It steams wonderfully though it does take a bit to warm up. Ease of Cleaning Quick and easy cleanup and dishwasher safe! Ease of Use Set it and forget it - piece of cake. Durability We have been using this steamer for a couple of years without ANY issues. Design Attractive and functional - not the best rice cooker however.

Great buy!

I have to start off by saying that when my husband to be and i registered for this time, we got made fun of ...big time! Everyone wanted to tell us that it was a waste of money because you could make rice so easily on the stove top but we registered for it anyways because my husband really wanted it. Anyways, it has become one of our favorite things in the kitchen! PROS of the Cuisinart CRC-800 8-cup rice cooker are: SO EASY A CAVE MAN COULD USE IT! You literally just put in your rice and correct amount of water and let it cook, its that easy. I love it! And this rice cooker comes with a user manual that has some good recipes in it too. CONS of the Cuisinart CRC-800 8-cup rice cooker are: Its a little bulky so storing it can be a problem, especially if you don't have a lot of space in your kitchen. AND make sure NOT to throw away the instruction/user manual or you'll have to search online about how many cups of water are used for certain amounts of rice, etc.

Cuisinart Ricer Cooker cooks rice well, if messily

3

The Cuisinart rice cooker does a pretty good job of cooking rice. I was trying not to buy one of the expensive Japanese ones, but I think you get what you pay for. This one does a decent job, but it does splutter and spill over the side. Making more rice (at least 6 cups) helps a bit, but there is always a gooey mess to wipe off the side. It comes off the stainless part and the teflon part very well, but the lid is a real bear to clean. I always end up having to remove the screw and all the pieces from the knob on the lid and then use a little scraper around the edge. Even with all that and then running it through the dishwasher, I still can't get it all sometimes. The other annoyance is that, once the rice cooker is plugged in, it is either on warm or cook. There is no off setting, so you have to wait to plug it in until you're ready for it to cook, and then unplug it when it's done. On the positive side, the cord retracts and stores inside the rice cooker.

Hate the Lid

This is a pretty decent rice cooker in that it looks pretty nice. It feels a little cheap though since they use metal colored plastics for the handles instead of actually using stainless steel unlike the surroundings. It cooks rice pretty well, but I can't really say it does a better or worse job than cheaper rice cookers I've had. Depending how much water you put in the rice can be mushy or burnt you really just have to control and test the amount unlike the super expensive fuzzy logic rice cookers. However one complaint I have is if you're actually cooking a lot of rice or cooking brown rice the water will actually overflow out of this thing and make a mess. The steamer basket is a nice touch, but I honestly never use it so it's just a worthless feature to me. The worst thing in my book about this rice cooker is the lid uses a really low quality plastic handle that's covered with metallic plastic. This handle conducts heat like nobody's business so opening up the lid after cooking the rice burns your fingers. I always have to use oven mitts to open the lid. After about a year of use the plastic on the handle starts breaking due to the heat which causes very sharp edges as well so oven mitts become necessary even when the lid is NOT hot. I'd say this is a very average rice cooker, it gets the job done and "looks" nice but could use a lot of improvements.

could have gotten better for my money

my husband is a rice fanatic. he would eat it three times a day if he could. we have had an ugly old rice cooker forever, and last year for christmas I decided to buy him a nicer one. I chose the cuisinart rice cooker, thinking it was expensive, had to be better than what we had before. It also looked nice and expensive, would be a nice addition to make the kitchen look better also. the coating on it it already scraped in many places and we are not rough in cleaning it. this worries me, as I think those coatings are bad for health anyways, and especially if they are chipped and getting into the food as it is heated. the other thing that upset me with this is that it is not very durable. it dropped out of the cupboard, and one of the legs on it is now jammed. it sits on the counter lopsided now and doesn't cook the rice evenly as a result. the only good thing is that it looks nice and came with a cookbook.

Makes a mess!

To just get it out in the open I want to let everyone know that I am Asian (which means I cook a LOT of rice).  I registered for this rice cooker on our bridal registry and was excited that I received it.  I chose this brand because I love Cuisinart and at the time, there weren't that many stainless steel rice cookers out there.  After reading the reviews here I am very surprised at how highly rated it is.  I MUST be cooking the wrong type of rice (i.e. jasmine and brown).  Anyway, I mostly cook jasmine rice, but I wouldn't say the rice cooks perfectly...I had to do some trial and error and found that I had to put 1/2 cup less water than I was suppose to, to have the rice come out "perfectly".  I also noticed the LESS rice I cooked, the more mess it made.  It sputters and it leaks around the top (not just the venthole).  Now brown rice is a whole other bag of worms.  I had to add twice the amount of water to rice (since brown rice takes longer to cook) and had to literally babysit the rice cooker so I wouldn't have to do some major cleanup at the end.  It sputtered and leaked everywhere and leaves the waxy rice residue everywhere.  I was standing by the rice cooker with a washcloth, paper towel, you name it just so it wouldn't drip onto the countertop and floor.  THEN, afterwards I have to scrub the whole rice cooker on the outside to get all the crunchy bits off.  The top is hard to clean (regardless of what kind of rice has been cooked) since there are some nooks and crannies that only the edge of a sponge can get into.  By the way, my mother-in-law has the same problem with the leaking, too.  Anyway, I just wanted to added my two cents because I was really disappointed in this rice cooker.  Makes me want to go to the Asian store and sacrifice looks for quality...what's wrong with having a white flowered design rice cooker in my stainless steel applianced kitchen?

Cuisinart makes a great rice cooker

I love my rice cooker, it makes the perfect amount of rice, and cooks it just right, which is great since my last rice cooker (don't quite remember the brand) had a tendency to burn the very bottom.  The steamer it comes with is also very useful, I've steamed veggies and baos and both have come out just right.  It's also very convenient that once it's done cooking, it switches to a warming mode, so if the rice finishes before you're ready to eat dinner, you don't have to worry about having to reheat the rice.  Cleaning it is also easy since it is non-stick, I don't have a problem getting any remnant rice off the tub. The only downside I have found is if you put in a full load of rice and water (I like sticky rice so I tend to use more water than others might) it tends to sputter through the hole in the lid and makes a bit of a mess, although now that I know it does it, I just move it away from anything else on the counter and it stays easy to clean up.

Great Rice Cooker!

Great rice cooker.  I received this rice cooker as a wedding gift and waited three years to actually use it...what a mistake!  This thing is great, all you have to do if fill it up with the correct amount of rice and water turn it on, and voila, perfectly cooked rice without any effort or mess.  The rice doesn't stick to the bottom of the container, which makes it easy to clean.  The container is small and removable, so extra rice can be stored in the fridge.  It also does a great job as a steamer.  The only complaint is that you can't steam a ton of stuff at one time or make a ton of rice at a time.  But as an everyday kitchen tool, for a small family, it really can't be beat.  The cord is also retractable, so that's just one less thing to mess with since it doesn't get tangled on anything.  It's a little pricy, but I would say that it's worth it.  Cuisinart did it right, great looking appliance, and super functional!

This appliance is only second to my blender!

It appears I like expensive products. Not really, but I like the ones that are durable and will stand the test of time and produce great food quality. After buying this rice cooker, I have almost forgotten how to make rice on the stove! I don't just use the cooker for plain white rice... I also create other rices in there (some favorites include: chopped veggie rice, spanish rice...) by just throwing in all the ingredients and pushing the "cook" button. It's a timed machine based on weight and water density that automatically turns the red (cook button) to green (warm buttom) when it's done. You can hear the "click" and should notice it's complete as well. I use this a few times a week and it cooks rice faster than it would on the stove, it's never burnt, and always consistent. It cooks up to 8 cups too! And you can cook your veggies on the top! A few pieces of advice: 1. Even if you aren't steaming veggies, keep the insert in during a cook session. This is because (with practice, I've learned) that the clear top will get all grimy and hard to clean if it's just sitting directly on top of the rice holder. If you separate it with the steamer basket which is easier to clean, you are left with no problems... but yes, one extra piece to clean-- but no big deal, right!? 2. The warmer continues to "cook" at a low temperature. So, cook the rice no more than 15 minutes before you plan to use it... or, unplug the machine. The rice will stay warm for awhile anyway with the top on. This is the single most-purchased item I get for wedding gifts! It's expensive, but totally worth it. And it's really sleek looking on your counter!
