It's summertime, and while it's not exactly cold and flu season with hosting playgroups and a busy lifestyle I am always 1)looking for drinks that are good for me, 2)looking for alternatives to sodas and 3) wanting to be healthier.  I recently tried Crystal Light On the Go Immunity Cherry Pomegranate drink mix.

Crystal Light On the Go Immunity Cherry Pomegranate Ingredients:Citric Acid, Maltodextrin, Modified Cornstrach, Natural Flavor, Aspartame, RED 40, Contains Less Than 2% OF ASCORBIC ACID (VITAMIN C), VITAMIN E, Acetate, Beta Carotene, Calcium, Sodium and Potassium Bicarbonate, Magnesium Oxide, Acesulfame Potassium, BLUE 1.

  • My Viewpoint: The title to this product is Crystal Light On the Go Immunity Cherry Pomegranate, but I am not really sure exactly what it means by "immunity."  After all the percentage of Vitamin C in the package obviously does not even register as far as a recommended daily allowance.  Sure, it is sugar free (so great for diabetics) but many people have concerns regarding Aspartame.  The use of Red and Blue dyes is also disconcerting.  The flavor was a bit strong, I used one package and started with 16 ounces of water, but then added another 8 ounces (24 total) to get the taste just right for me.  I enjoy the fact that it is easy to take on the run, so that you can hide a package or two in your purse or diaper bag and add water to your water bottle throughout the day to create a tasty drink.  But I have to rate this just a 3, since I don't see any real immunity or health value.  It does taste good, and the children enjoyed it too. But the use of some of the ingredients as well as the price for something that isn't necessarily good for you means this will be an occasional purchase, not something I choose to keep in stock. There are many more tasty drinks available that are actually good for you and easy to take on the go.

I have to share this with you. A few years back I worked out with a former Mr. Universe. I was in amazing shape. One of the few things I could drink was Crystal Light and at the time my goal was to be in great shape. Now, my goal is to be healthy and I avoid CL. Thanks for your take on this:) Jo

If they have a version that is lemonade or tea flavored I'd probably try it. Otherwise, I don't usually like berry flavored drinks. :)

I really like this stuff! It's not overly sweet and no aftertaste!

I have had quite a few of the different flavors. Nice write-up.

I was at the dollar store yesterday and they had three different flavors of these, I bought each kind. But $ 3.39 isn't that good of a deal at all, is it??

I recently tried the Peach Tea which is pretty good. Not as strong as other flavors I've tried. Most taste fake though and I don't like the idea of aspartame either. Isn't it funny what marketing will try to sell us. Great information Lisa.

Good points. I went through trying C.L. as an alternative to juices and the kids liked it BUT some of the flavors stained their faces badly. It was a pain for me & I wondered how good this could be for their insides. It has some good points but I avoid all red flavors.
