Croatia is still an affordable, beautiful place to travel.  Very safe.  I took tour not knowing what to expect of Croatia.  Very surprised on how clean, friendly, and beautiful Croatia is.  Not as many tourists there as the rest of Europe.  Does not use Euros in many places.  Lots of outdoor things to do/see.  Bring comfortable walking shoes!  Weather was beautiful.  Would recommend Croatia to… read full review »

The first time I visited Croatia it was still part of the former Yugoslavia. No one spoke English, the communist government had minimum currency exchange requirements and the bus drivers careened down the highways drinking hard liquor as they drove. Despite the challenges I loved the area and for nearly 20 years I told my spouse that the coastline was one of the most beautiful places I'd ever been (which is saying a lot because I travel a LOT). I have been to Croatia twice.  The first time my husband and I drove around the Northern part.  Diving was cheap and the water conditions were great.  Beutiful lakes and parks to visit as well.  If you got off the higways, the roads were sketchy, sharp steep turns with no guardrails and roads in need of repair.  The second time we passed through Dubrovnik, which was a beautiful city, but way too expensive and touristy with all of the cruise ships passing through.  It was worth a day trip, but it was much better staying along the coast north of… read full review »
