Quick View: I am a tough case when it comes to whitening my teeth because I drink loads of tea every day and have since I was a teen. On top of that, I enjoy Diet Coke and Pepsi daily as well. They stain teeth badly and getting those stains off is no easy task. It doesn't appear that Crest Vivid White Night Toothpaste is going to do more than other whitening toothpastes for me.
My Take on Crest Vivid White Night Toothpaste
This toothpaste comes in a 4.1 ounce tube, smaller than typical toothpaste tubes. It promises to loosen stains at night so that you can brush them away in the morning. I love that concept but then on the tube, it says to brush teeth morning and night with the toothpaste so is it a night product or an anytime one?
The toothpaste tastes fine. It is minty and fresh and does a good job cleaning my teeth and freshening my breath. After I brush, I do seem to have slightly whiter teeth but I think that is just because I do a really thorough job brushing at night and my teeth are as clean as they can be. The stains of the day's tea and soda are not yet set in and I actually can brush some of the residue away.
The active ingredient inĀ Crest Vivid White Night Toothpaste is Sodium Fluoride 0.243% which is the same active ingredient in many of my usual toothpastes, all of which claim to be whitening. I don't see anything else at all in this toothpaste to indicate it has anything different than regular whitening toothpastes that are less costly.
Having said that, Crest Vivid White Night does a good job of cleaning my teeth and it is an anti-cavity formula. I will keep using the tube I have and, if I don't see results after that, will go back to my usual whitening toothpastes that get surface stains off but can't tackle years worth of tea and soda stains. Even professional teeth cleaning can't remove those stains. I plan to have my teeth bleached in 2010 because I am sick of trying every whitener on the market and seeing minimal results.
My Viewpoint
I think Crest Vivid White Night Toothpaste may work on people who have mild stains on their teeth. Maybe it has something in it that really does soften stains but I don't see it when I look at the ingredients and the only active one is in many of my cheaper toothpastes. Still, it's certainly not a BAD product. It's just pricey for a whitening toothpaste that, for me, doesn't seem to be giving noticeable results. I will recommend it but only to those who have mild stains or just want to keep their teeth bright and white. I don't think this or any toothpaste can tackle years worth of tea stains on teeth unfortunately. 3 stars.
