Crest Pro-Health Rinse —

HOLY MOLY. I have no idea what to make of this dental product but my gut vibe is tending to be negative. Crest Pro Health Mouth Rinse ("refreshing clean mint" flavor, blue color) is made by a reputable enough company, but the ingredients are sort of questionable and the blue food coloring used in it is something I really really have questions about.

Alright, maybe one pro of this mouth rinse is that it does not seem to contain alcohol, so the chances of it burning your sensitive gums or mouth interior are low. It is good to have alcohol free mouth wash since some research has shown that alcohol based mouth wash can be a contributing factor to cancers in the mouth. But there is an ingredient that is questionable, and that is sodium saccharin. It is not one of the first ingredients in the list so at least it's not like it is a huge percentage in the liquid, but still.

Sodium saccharin is often used in food products as a sweetening substitute for sugar, so it seems Crest wants to mask some other taste this Pro Health mouth rinse might have and uses saccharin to do that. But I wonder if that is such a good idea to put in a dental product that is supposed to enhance the health of teeth. I know that my dentists have said sugar is definitely bad for teeth but that sugar substitutes can be just as detrimental.

I have been trying to keep on top more of my dental hygiene because as I get older I really do not want to have any fillings or crowns replaced before necessary. So I saw this product on special and figured I would try it because Crest has been in the dental hygiene industry for so long, they certainly would have done the research to make a pretty decent mouth rinse.

But, when I had been using it off and on for a month or so--- and I do not think I am imagining things--- but my teeth turned even more sensitive to temperature extremes and texture of food, and I really believe my expensive crowns were beginning to loosen. YIKES.

That was enough to make me halt the use of it and do a little more internet searching and what do I find, but lots of people around the country complaining about Crest Pro Health Mouth Rinse. This mouth wash is not only turning a lot of consumers' teeth brown(!) but also killing their taste buds so much so that they either can't taste food or the food has a terrible taste to it. I only used it at night so I did not eat anything right after but it had a sweet aftertaste.

Some defenders might say the brown stain or discoloration around the gums or even between teeth might be harmless and can be brushed off. Uh great, but a mouth rinse should NOT be doing that in the first place. I was really concerned because it seemed to stain the sink, as the "blue 1" coloring seemed so persistent. What could Crest Pro Health be doing to my teeth and gums?

I absolutely don't want any stained teeth let alone destruction of my already weak taste buds, so I am going to see if I can get my money back from the Crest toll free number on the bottle.
