Crest Intensive Cleaning Paste, Weekly Clean —

Quick View: I drink a lot of tea and it stains my teeth. I work hard to keep them white and am always looking for new products to help me out. I came across Crest Intensive Cleaning Paste, Weekly Clean at drugstore.com and decided to try it. Big. Waste. of. Money.

About Crest Intensive Cleaning Paste, Weekly Clean

This little, teeny .85 ounce tube of tooth polish is supposed to be used once a week to "deep clean" and polish teeth. It doesn't have fluoride in it and shouldn't be used as a daily toothpaste. The claims are that there is enough paste in the tube for 16 bushings.

First, this little tube comes in a huge plastic package that isn't recyclable. It's completely unnecessary to come in such large packaging but I suppose Crest knows people would bypass a little three inch tube of toothpaste that cost $4.25. Once you get the little tube out of all that packaging, you will shake your head in disbelief at how small the tube is. More, the directions say to completely cover the head of your toothbrush. If I do that, I can only get MAYBE eight uses from a tube. Maybe.

The polish looks like regular toothpaste and tastes the same. It is slightly grittier than normal toothpaste but doesn't seem to have any special whitening ingredients in it. It does polish the teeth a bit so, when you slip your tongue over your teeth they will feel "slickery". (Remember the Pearl Drops Tooth Polish commercial where the girlĀ  made a big sensual deal out of slicking her tongue over her teeth? No? Well, I'm old. I remember silly stuff like that.)

My teeth feel a bit more polished but I have seen NO whitening at all when I use Crest Intensive Cleaning Paste, Weekly Clean. I have used it twice weekly and really gave my teeth a good brushing and I just had cleaner teeth but not whiter at all.

To me, this is a waste of money. I can get cleaner teeth by brushing them well and often. I use pre-rinses that give me mush better results and this little tube of paste is WAY overpriced. I won't buy it again. It's simply not worth the price and the packaging is such a waste.

My Viewpoint

Crest Intensive Cleaning Paste, Weekly Clean
is a disappointment. If you want a paste that polishes your teeth a bit, you may like this stuff but don't look for whiter teeth from it. It's such a waste of money. 1 star.

It does do a good job polishing teeth. I just didn't see much change in the whiteness of my teeth. It did make them feel cleaner and no doubt they were cleaner. But for the price, I can get the same results from something less harsh. I worry about the enamel on my teeth. Glad you liked it though!

I just used this product after having a salisbury steak & macaroni & cheese for dinner so i put it to the test. It was a more intense brush on my teeth as it has crystal like chemicals that make a snap, crakle & pop sound while brushing & i did notice it made my teeth look a little more glossy after the brushing then a regular paste. My gums are sensitive so it did feel like i had just brushed with baking soda as they felt irritated a bit but i quickly rinsed out with warm salt water & my gums felt good afterwards..I get my teeth cleaned & polished every 3 months & i am due for my next appointment so i will let my dentist take care of my polishing.
I guess i could say that i recommend this product since it is only used once a week so it's kind of like a good preventative maintenance to keep the teeth looking glossy.

I will be interested in knowing how it worked for you. People are so different that one person's holy grail is another's "never again" product. lol.

I have sensitive teeth and didn't note much more sensitivity than with normal toothpaste.

I got a free sample that was included in a tooth paste package so i will let you know how it works for me..
Albeit i do have sensitive teeth, thanks for the review!

Hi, Patty. I like your reviews. First saw your comments on AnnaBanana's site. Anyway... my dental hygienist rinses her mouth once a week with hydrogen pyroxide. I've tried it. Not for the timid, but it does make a difference. (I drink a lot of tea, too.) Happy holidays.

Oh I know. I have used peroxide lots of times and gels with it in them. My mouth fizzes and I froth like a rabid dog. lol.

I do the peroxide thing that Lisa recommended. Not only does it help clean teeth but it also disinfects your mouth. Beware though--it can have you foaming at the mouth like you have rabies ;+/ ~Gigi

I think Pearl Drops is still around actually. Luckily the commercial isn't.

My mother used peroxide all the time as a mouthwash and I thought she was coo coo but it really DOES work on teeth. That's the major ingredient in moth teeth whiteners anyway.

It is SUCH a big waste.

Good to know. Now I won't waste my money on this. Thanks! :)

LisaCarey wrote on Nov 23, 2008 at 1:28PM

Try one capful of hydrogen peroxide with a cup of water. Hold in mouth and swish. Whitens teeth and acts as "mouthwash" for cleaning. .69 cents ...:-D

LOL...I remember the Pearl Drops commercial. I probably would have been tempted to buy this too, so thanks for the review. :)
