Crayola Colored Pencils (12-pack) —

Crayola colored pencils are a great treat to have when you are working with a design that needs color. They present a really nice option because they come with a long barrel that not only makes them easy to hold, but extends the life of this particular writing utensil. It isn't just a tool great for coloring books, but serves as a great asset for college students and people in the architectural world as well. Not only that, but they are fun to use even if you are just looking to add color to your normal pencil writing routine. I particularly like them because they are as long as a normal pencil, so you aren't giving up as much when you move from normal lead to colored lead.

With each of these packs of Crayola pencils, you get 12 of the colored pencils. They do sell them in smaller packs of 8, or larger packs of 18 colors, but the 12 pack is what I prefer because of the adequate color assortment that they give you. This pack comes with the colors Yellow, Orange, Red Orange, Red, Yellow Green, Green, Sky Blue, Blue, Violet, Light Brown, Brown, and Black. The sky blue comes in handy as a nice turquoise, and the light brown most closely resembles a tan color. It covers all of the basic colors you need in order to have fun drawing, or to cover the bases of any type of shading you would like to do on a presentation.

In a world where ink is very expensive to print in color, and where toner runs out quite quickly, these colored pencils can serve as a great asset and substitute for graphing and statistics. For instance, you can easily print off those graphs without using colors, and then just shade in the blank spots with one of the colored pencils. That being said, you can see how the use of these pencils can easily translate to a coloring book for a younger user. They are also quite good to use on crafts and patterns, highlighting where you need to cut, or where you need to tear. Each of the colors is very bright, and when seen on paper, appears very intense to the eye. The lead is also very thick, so when you put it to the paper, you don't have to worry about breaking off the tips if you press too hard.

Either using the tip, or adjusting the angle to shade in an area, these are great colored pencils to use. The term used on the box is that they are "smooth" when you lay it down on paper, and I would have to fully agree with that. Once it has been on the paper for a short time, it will not smear, and for that I am grateful. The pencils do erase very well if you need to do that, but the only detractor is that there are not erasers on the pencils themselves. It's of little consequence though, because it means you can sharpen these ones down even further during use, and you aren't impeded by the normal metal "protector" that the eraser is attached to. Purchasing a separate eraser isn't that much of a hassle, and would go well with this set.

The Crayola colored pencils are one of the most reliable sets on the market, and because of that their popularity has become quite well known. As a result they are available for purchase at most any store that sell either writing utensils or school supplies. I think that speaks volumes for what type of product you are getting here, and shows that they are well worth the price either online or in person. The normal selling price for these colored pencils is about $2.19, but every fall you can find them heavily marked down in various "back-to-school" sales that will sell them as cheap as 25 to 99 cents if you are lucky. In my opinion they are really worth the price, and are a strong product that could help out anyone who loves using colored pencils. I highly recommend them, and suggest picking up a 12-pack for any student in your family.

My kid's teacher agrees. Crayola is definitely the "preferred" brand...
