I'm going to edit the beginning slightly... Lately, I've been looking again for a second bicycle. Every time I see one, Email or call..."Oh, we sold that already." Well, if you've sold it...delete the post! GEEZ! People, if you post something & it sells, DELETE the post.
I first heard about Craigslist, not via the Internet, but watching an episode of "The People's Court". (My guilty pleasure...court shows.) As time went on, I needed to sell some H-O gauge train sets. No room in an apartment. These weren't toys, but expensive model trains & cars. Most replies were, "How much will you really sell them for?" I wouldn't budge an inch on the price. Finally, I got one serious email, followed by the phone call. The guy came over, took one look, and got out his $$$$. Bottom line...if you know the value of what you're selling, stick to your original price. Quality musical instruments also seem to go pretty fast; buying or selling.
My latest hobby seems to be buying old bicycles, fixing them up & reselling them. Recently, I went to look at one advertised for $20.00. The front fork was bent! I can't fix that on my own. I told the lady I could take it for free & donate it to St. Louis Bike Works. (http://www.stlbikeworks.com) They would have a used front fork, (maybe not the same brand...but workable) and sell it to a needy kid who couldn't afford a new bike. My latest project is a Raleigh Technium Mountain Bike made about 1988 with an aluminum frame. It's rare to find a bike this old, in fair condition, that basically needs new tires, tubes and lots of TLC.
If you're selling a quality item, don't jump at the first one if they try to "low-ball" your price. If you're buying...inspect carefully!
