While this may be in fact one, of not the largest internet community that I'm aware of, this isn't necessarily a good thing. Truthfully, it may work for someone living in a bigger city, but when you live in the middle of nowhere, there's not a lot to enjoy about Craigslist. I have found a bargain or two in the past, but my overall experience, especially when it comes to either selling, or giving away stuff on Craigslist has been rather bleak, to say the least.

I recently tore down a very old (100+ years) house on my property. As such I had tons of antique flooring, beams, doors windows etc to sell. I mostly had to list items in far away cities for them to get noticed and even then it was a hassle. I never asked an unreasonable price for anything. I simply asked enough to cover my time and effort of taking the stuff out of the house without wrecking it. As a result of posting the items on Craigslist, I had the privlege of dealing with a bunch of rich, snotty people who only wanted something nice for next to nothing. I did manage to find someone willing to buy all of the antique wood that was salvagable, although he found me on eBay, not Craigslist.

Before that, I had a bunch of older appliances that I needed to get rid of and ran an ad on Craigslist in the 'For Free' section, asking that if they wanted the stuff, all the person had to do was take ALL of it. That was a waste of time, as someone came out and picked up one washing machine, promising to come and take the rest the next day. Needless to say they never showed back up. Then just a couple of weeks ago, i ran an add in the 'For free' section again for loads of scrap metal from the deconstruction of the house. Again all I asked was that the person take it all and not leave a mess. Well, I got half of my wish. They took all the metal, they just left a huge mess.

I haven't had much luck finding other musicians on Craigslist, either. Truthfully, the only parts of the site that I really enjoy are the 'Barter' and 'Wanted' listings on 'For Sale' and the local 'Rants and Raves'. The rest of the site, I can obviously live without.

I live in the middle of nowhere. I've looked on Craig's List a few times but didn't find anything that caught my attention. Sounds like a good thing that I didn't spend time there.
