Craigslist has to be one of the most comprehensive classified sites there is. It covers all 50 states and most major cities even overseas locations. They have categories that cover everything you can think of, they even have discussion forums.

Buyer Beware

As with any classified publication you must also be aware that spammers and pranksters will pop up. Never give out any personal information to anyone unless you are satisfied the ad is legit. You can email the person that placed the ad through craigslist, the reply info is in the upper left of the ad you are looking at. I always use an alternate email address when using any service such as craigslist. That way my main email address is not compromised or filled with spam.

Be careful letting your children access craigslist as there are Personal ads on there as well and they contain pictures in some of them. I sold my enclosed cargo trailer on craigslist and was able to include 10 pictures of it in my ad and it was FREE. They do however charge for certain ads to be placed. These include jobs and housing as far as I know these are the only ones they charge for.

Another feature is the ability to flag ads that are either vulgar or spam and once they are flagged craigslist will remove them. The only ad I can remember being bogus was a guy around here that was giving away a 1969 Chevy Station Wagon. He didn't want to give it to anyone that would enter it in a demolition derby. At the same time he refused about 20 people and finally they flagged him and he disappeared. Seems he only wanted to play games. That is to be expected though on a free site, it will attract all kinds.

Bottom Line

If you are looking for something and you're having a hard time locating it, give craigslist a try you may just find it. I have seen some great stuff given away as well. One guy was giving away copper water pipe because he didn't want to take it to the scrap yard. It was about $200 worth of copper pipe. I missed it by about an hour, it would have come in handy for running a water line to my garden.

They cover all 50 states and even overseas locations. So if you are in the need to buy or sell, need a place to live, need a job or service then craigslist can be a good start at finding what you need or selling what you no longer want.
