Reynolds Freezer Paper

When I make a batch of homemade meatballs I like to make enough to freeze for football season so I can enjoy the game and still be the MVP at the dinner table without having to throw together a hail Mary pass meal. So I keep Reynolds freezer paper on hand to safely store my preseason efforts while they are benched until game day. But there is another great reason I like to have Reynolds Freezer Paper on hand, two of them actually, my four and nine year-olds.

Reynolds Freezer Paper is a great canvas for arts & crafts for kids and play time ideas too. Any brand of freezer paper would probably do well. I like Reynold because it is has a great plastic coating that makes it perfect for holding up to paints, I can pick it up with my groceries and the 150 square feet (33 1/3 yards x 18 inches wide) goes a long way.

These are a few of the ways that our family uses Reynolds Freezer Paper for arts & crafts and playtime but surely they will inspire your own ideas. If not, don't worry, your kids will have plenty.

Honk! Honk! A Reynolds Freezer Paper Arts & Crafts Highway

My son loves to push his cars and trucks around but enjoys it more and plays longer when he's given a long highway down our front porch. We simply roll out a highway and tape down the ends. Then we draw solid and dotted lines for roads, stop signs, traffic lights and landscaping or whatever revs his motor at the time. He can come up with street names and speed limits and all the while we are reinforcing lessons on shapes, colors, numbers, reading and writing skills. Then he gets to have some much needed gross motor activity as zooms around his own highway system. When it is time to close the road, we roll it up for another rainy day.

Happy Birthday! Welcome! Congratulations! Reynolds Freezer Paper Arts & Crafts Banners

We like to celebrate at our house. Instead of buying premade banners, we paint our own. It's a fun touch when Grandma pulls up after a long drive and sees a Welcome banner handmade by her grandchildren hanging on the gate. Last year I attached photos of previous birthday parties on a birthday banner in the dining room so guests could enjoy photos of themselves and my daughter from years past while they waited in line to serve themselves. Let your kids make a banner for you and you'll see just what they think of when they think of you. For my husband's birthday, they covered his banner with rivers and fish and tractors. Handmade freezer paper banners can mark a school kick off, end of a sports season or whatever is going on with your family. Kids are practicing spelling and writing (sshh!) and enjoying creative expression.

Life Size Paper Dolls Arts & Crafts from Reynolds Freezer Paper

As a classroom teacher, freezer paper is a great teacher resource.  Letting kids make "themselves" was always a hit. My kids love it too. Simply roll out and tape down the freezer paper. Let the kids position themselves on the paper and trace each other. Then they can decorate themselves with markers, fabric scraps and a variety of things can be used to make hair from yarn to macaroni noodles. This is a great rainy day activity.

We've also used this idea for homeschool lessons like book reports. My daughter recently read Strawberry Girl and created a life size replica of Birdie to stand by her report. There's no end to the ways you can use this as an educational tool from modeling Egyptian fashions to studying math and marking the body with measurements or writing the names of bones in the respective places.

Mural Painting Arts & Crafts on Reynolds Freezer Paper

Freezer paper makes a perfect size mural. Hang the paper at the children's eye level and let them create. If you have preschoolers, it may be helpful to make sections since they can be very sensitive to "my space." A mural can have a theme like recreating a amusement park you recently visited or simply free style. If you need to keep the mess down, I recommend washable markers or water colors and keep some baby wipes on hand.

One Foot, Two Foot, Red Foot Blue Foot Arts & Crafts on Reynolds Freezer Paper

If you want to be known as the coolest parents, grandparents or teachers around, roll out the freezer paper and put some paint on paper plates or in plastic storage containers on a covered surface and have your garden hose ready. Let the kids step in the paint and walk along the freezer path having a paint parade. This is so fun. A little messy, yes, but sure to bring out big smiles. If want to really "get it," take lessons from your kids and take off your shoes and join them.

Other arts & crafts for kids ideas include making scrolls with freezer paper and paper towel tubes, folded hats, life size holiday decorations and handmade place-mats. My daughter even created a skirt from Reynold's freezer paper and fringed it into a hula skirt.

My Viewpoint:

Freezer paper is a helpful item for storing foods but it can also be a great teacher resource or awesome parent resource for fun lessons in nourishing kid's creativity!

Awesome and creative ideas! I can't wait to try some out for when my grandson comes to visit. I keep Reynolds Freezer Paper on hand for my quilting when I do applique work. I never thought about it for other creative uses. (Of course, I suppose I could use it in the kitchen, but I never have...LOL)

Didn't realize I could use the freezer paper for all these things, many of which I already do, but have to purchase expensive "butcher paper" now that I am not longer teaching and it's not on hand. Now I know Reynolds ain't just for cookin'!

Great ideas and love the pictures! I'd have to watch my 4-year-old because she's prone to taking off more than her shoes when getting wet or dirty. I saw that you're a classroom teacher--you may want to check out my review about "Chalk in Hand"--you seem quite creative and it might give you some ideas for storytelling.
