CoverGirl LashBlast Mascara —

If you've skimmed through a beauty magazine recently or have chatted with female friends or colleagues, you're sure to have heard of Cover Girl Last Blast. The fat orange tube of mascara with the weird prickly brush has received lots of hype ever since it's release. Rumored to be the best drugstore brand mascara currently on the market, it promises to "max out" lashes for the "ultimate big lash look." Being the curious cat that I am with all things cosmetic related, I picked up a tube for myself, to see what the hoopla was all about.

Before I start my review of Last Blash I must inform you, I've been a loyal user of L'Oreal Voluminous since my late teens. I was hesitant to try something new, because well, I love my Voluminous and have no desire to change brands. However, curiosity got the best of me and I had to see what the rave was about. Though I do not think I will be switching from my current brand, I was pleasantly surprised with the results of Last Blast. If you still haven't found a mascara you love, I recommend you give the Lash Blast a shot. For about $8USD you don't have much to lose.

I'll admit, when I first saw the mascara in the store display I found it odd. The huge, bright orange tube and spiky brush reminded me of something you'd see on the Sci-Fi channel. Still, I wasn't put off. I knew there had to be some sort of purpose for such a weird brush. As long as it didn't poke my eye out I was fine with it.

I purchased the Cover Girl Lash Blast in Very Black and returned home to test it right away. The brush is even more intimidating when you see it close up, but it is soft to the touch and I realized after a few short moments that it was harmless. After I got over my fear of the monster brush, I applied the mascara.

TIP: When applying mascara, I always put the brush into the base of the lashes and wiggle it from side to side, while pulling it towards the tip of the lashes. This helps to evenly distribute the mascara and separate the lashes. For a more dramatic effect, let dry for a minute before applying a second coat of mascara to each eye.

The formula is quite thick and easy to work with and after one coat my lashes looked longer, dark and thicker. It looked very suitable for a natural day time look. I wanted a more dramatic look so I applied a second coat. It clumped up a bit then, but it was easily fixed with an eye lash comb. The result was very dark, long and thick lashes. A little too dramatic for every day, but a perfect look for evenings and nights out. Amazingly, this stuff even curled my lashes! I did not use an eye lash curler and somehow I ended up with a perfect curl. I have heard it was not very good at holding a curl, but it had the opposite effect for me. Hmm ...

I wore the mascara for the rest of the day. I even took a small nap in it. Oops. It still looked fresh when I woke up. I have allergies and I rub my watery eyes a lot sometimes resulting in raccoon eyes. I found this did not smudge or streak at all. It did however, make my lashes crispy to the touch and flaked a very small amount after about 8 hours of use. Washing it off was a snap; it came off easily with eye makeup remover.

Overall, the product lived up to the hype and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a good, low cost volumizing mascara.
