Good concept but looked like a thick, matte mask on my face.

Pros

SPF 22, Olay serum is supposed to improve skin, long wearing, medium plus coverage

Cons
looks unnatural, settles into fine lines, orangey, very matte and dull, cakey, thick, powdery, hard to find the right shade

Quick View: The concept of CoverGirl and Olay combining to make a cream foundation for mature skin seems to be a good one. For me, it didn't work at all and I returned the foundation for a refund.

About CoverGirl and Olay Simply Ageless Foundation

This foundation comes in a round compact with a sponge applicator under the main foundation compartment. It is swirled with color and white Olay serum that is supposed to hydrate, de-age, and make mature skin look younger. Ellen Degeneres is the face of this foundation and even SHE doesn't look that great in the promotional posters for this foundation.

When choosing a shade, remember that the actual shade will be lighter than what you see in the compact. When the color is swirled together with the white Olay stuff, it become much lighter. The shade I chose which was perfect for my skin (or so I thought) made me look like a ghost. Finding the right shade is TOUGH!

The foundation didn't feel hydrating or soothing. It was cakey, thick, and dried to a powdery, unnatural finish. Although it claims to smooth lines, CoverGirl and Olay Simply Ageless Foundation actually settled into the little lines under my eyes and made me look even older than I already do. The shades are also a bit orange tinted and don't look like natural skin.

Although there is SPF 22 in this foundation, there wasn't anything else good about it for me to justify paying $15.99 for it. I like CoverGirl AquaSmooth Cream Foundation much better and it's cheaper. I have dry skin and this foundation just made it look drier and cakey. I felt as though I had a mask on my face when I wore it and it looked thick and fake on me.

My Viewpoint

CoverGirl and Olay Simply Ageless Foundation is marketed to older women ( I am 44) but it seems like it's best for oily or combination skin. It is very matte and powdery and not easy to blend on the face. The concept seems to be a winner but the actuality is that, for me, it was a bomb. It may work for you if you like heavier, matte, powdery foundation. I give it 2 stars based on my experience but I do recommend that you try it if you like the concept. You may love it. Just get it where it can be returned for a shade exchange or a refund if you don't like the way it looks or feels.

I always do use a moisturizer but I will try it again. I have an urge to buy the blush. I wonder how that would be? It looks nice in the package and I am a blush-aholic! lol.

Patty, use your moisturizer before applying the simply ageless foundation. Yes, I know there's Olay in it, but not enough to help in the application of the make-up to the face, resulting in the need for additional application which can start to become thick. If you use moisturizer ahead of time, I think you'll like it much better. My skin feels like velvet! I am 48, and extremely fashion, skin, and beauty conscious...Good luck!

I did this once, but guess I have to do it again. I recently purchased 2 CoveGirl & Olay Simply ageless foundations, but can't get them open. I can get into the bottom of it where the sponge is but no way will they open to get into the make-up. Tried turning it, prying it and does not open. Also if I do get one open and do not like it, is is true that I can return them for a full refund? Please help me. my E-Mail address is llcromer@sbcglobal.net. Thank you.

Well, it may work for you if you have oily skin. It just seemed awfully cakey and heavy for my normal to dry skin. It was disappointing. I think they now make a liquid version. That may work better.

Thank you, Patty. Terrific review. I actually looked for a review for you on this product because you and I seem to be looking for the "very right" foundation. (I think I'm about to give up. LOL)

At any rate, you just saved me fifteen smackers. I owe ya one!

I agree that it is really heavy. They should know as women age, less is more. Or at least we don't want to look clownish. I', nearly 45 and I have lightened up on the makeup some and feel I look better. This just didn't work for me at all either.

grannyglitter wrote on May 30, 2009 at 10:31AM

I tried it and found it was just to heavy .It felt like clown make up and being as if I did clowning many years ago..I really know that feel. It might be meant for older women but I wonder how old. I am 70 , so think I might be in the to old class.Tee Hee. Being as if I don't have my receipt for the 14.00 I paid..Guess I just take the loss and move on.

In response to auretta's comment from Mar 29, 2009 at 5:59PM:

From what I remember, it snaps open on top and on the bottom to get to the sponge. I didn't even know it had a sponge until I stumbled on the bottom chamber. I took mine back so I don't have it here to actually look at but the pic shows it snaps open rather than screws open.

I bought the Simply ageless and have not been able to open it. Could someone please help me? No instructions came with the foundation???????

I have a problem with finding foundations that are actually close to my natural skin color. Most of the time I get a paler look and people think I am sick. Lucky for me spring is upon me and I don't use a foundation that much during the spring and summer b/c I have a good enough tan ;+)

I'm glad it works for you! I think I need something with more hydration since I have such dry skin. I hope you write a review on this product and show "the other side" of it. It's always great to have different opinions on a product.

MichellelnCook wrote on Mar 4, 2009 at 8:36AM

I bought the foundation yesterday and used it this morning. I too found it was a bit lighter on my skin than it looked in the container. I bought the lightest one since I'm pretty fair and don't tan ever. Next time, I'd buy a shade darker than I think I need. I'm guessing the white Olay part of the makeup lightens it a little. It did go on smooth, though, and I think feels nice.
