I had seen an ad for Color Girl Tru Color. The ad said that women (and I suppose men?) could wear more colors with this lipstick. The lipstick was designed to work with various undertones on the lips and then not look strange with different face shades.
I'm one of those women who can't wear some colors. Most reds look awful when I put them on. They are overpowering. It just looks like I got into my Mom's lipstick or something.
Long ago, there was a lipstick I loved. I can't even remember the brand now. I just know they discontinued my favorite shade. I've never found another that I'd buy again and again. I should have bought a lifetime supply before that one got canned.
I did decide to try Tru Color. I wanted something close to red. Not a true red. I'm not that brave knowing how that looks.
I selected muave. It has a second name. It's not M-A-Y-E-R, but I can't read that small print enough to figure it out. Anyway, it's the only one that starts out with muave as far as I know.
It's a great lipstick. It works with my coloring. It's fine with my red clothes without giving me clown red lips. It blends with my skin and with things I wear. I'm really excited about that.
In addition, the texture on the lipstick is great. It feels almost like gloss - but not sticky. My lips are really soft when I use this.
The sheen is somewhat muted. I don't really like the ones that look like waxed cars. This does have a little shine, but it's not extreme. It basically looks natural - but better than natural. That's the look I'm shooting for too.
One thing I would note is that the color patches on the display and side of the tubes are not real "true." I had another color picked, but when I was in the check out line, I saw that the top of the tube was clear. When I looked down in the tube, I felt the first color was too red. It didn't look that way on the swatches. I ran back and traded it out for the muave after checking down in the viewing hole. I was thrilled with the one I bought after checking the actual lipstick visually. I wouldn't suggest going with the little sample colors, unless you can wear a whole lot of different colors well.
Also, Cover Girl does need to be reapplied. That's always been my experience with Cover Girl. It may be that I lick or rub my lips more than most people. Anyway, I carry it with me to touch up as needed. Once or twice during the day does the trick.
If you've been thinking about this new Cover Girl lipstick, I'd say to give it a try. It runs under $6, and it's one of the best lipsticks I've ever bought.
