I expected more from CoverGirl. This Lipstain is disappointing!

Cover Girl Outlast Lipstain —

Quick View: When I saw CoverGirl Outlast Lipstain pens at the drugstore, I just had to have some. I love long wearing lipstains and I usually pay much more for stains like Benefit Benetint Blush and Lip Shade which works great but only comes in one shade. These pens of lipstain are OK but there are a number of things I don't like about them which lead me to be quite disappointed in them.

About CoverGirl Outlast Lipstain

These water based lipstains come in marker-like tubes with a felt tip. There are 10 shades but I only saw about five where I was. I bought Coy Coral and Plum Pout. The stain is very easy to apply. Just draw the color on like you would with an actual felt tipped pen. The color comes out fairly evenly. Speaking of color, neither color is the color on the pen or at the tip where the stain can be seen through clear plastic. The Coy Coral is bright orange. Really bright. The Plum Pout of more bright red than plum. I see no plum hues in it at all. It's really dark too. Yikes.

Once the color dries, it's very matte which is the way all stains dry down. It doesn't wrinkle or dry out my lips and doesn't have a nasty taste. I wear clear lip gloss over the stain to give my lips some shine and that doesn't seem to affect the wear time. CoverGirl says these stains will last for at least six hours on the lips even through eating and drinking but I found that isn't so. If I do nothing with my lips (eat, drink, kiss...), the stain lasts an hour to an hour and a half and then slowly fades away. It doesn't get patchy or leave a nasty ring around my lips like some stains though.

If I eat or drink, while the stain doesn't seem to leave lip prints on glasses and silverware, it does fade away and is gone by the end of the meal or drink. Disappointing.

My Viewpoint

CoverGirl Outlast Lipstain pens cost about $7.00 to $8.00 a pen which is a lot cheaper than BeneFit Benetint Blush and Lip Shade and easier to find than Revlon Limited Edition Collection Just Bitten Lip Stain but I won't buying anymore of it. I don't like the super deep and bright shades and the fading. Still, if you're looking for an inexpensive lipstain that does last longer that gloss or lipstick, CoverGirl Outlast Lipstain may be for you. Just know the colors are deeper and not exactly as portrayed on the color charts and the pens and the color does NOT last anywhere near as long as the claims. I have to go with 2 stars because they don't look awful as they fade but I don't recommend them. They're not total duds, just excruciatingly disappointing. If you want real lipstain that truly lasts, try Lip-Ink. That stuff lasts through ANYTHING!

It's definitely not one of CoverGirl's better products. I doubt this product will be on the shelves for long. Many people have issues with it. Thanks for taking time to comment!

I just bought it yesterday, and the cost was around $750 - $8.00. The reason I bought it, I like Cover Girl Outlast lipsticks, and I use them all the time because of the wear. I had a coupon for $1 off on any Cover Girl product, and at K-Mart they were doubling the coupons, so I thought I would "try" the Outlast Stain. To say the least, this will be the first and last time I buy it. I don't know if you have to hold the tube a certain way to make it come out, but it is almost like you have to hold it upside down, at least for me. I notice that you have to let it dry, and then do it two or three times, especially if you want to get the color, you want.

Sould I expect to see some of these in the next bag of makeup you pass my way? ;)
