I'm not terribly picky when it comes to lip color.  It needs to have a nice moisturizing feel to it, and the color needs to complement my caramel brown skin tone.  I don't care for a lot of gloss or glitter.  I only care that it has reasonably lasting staying power and that it doesn't end up on my teeth or migrate beyond the boundaries of my lip line.

Cover Girl Outlast is a great idea with a few problems in performance.  The two-part lip gloss consists of a color stain that truly does last for hours.  Unfortunately, the moisturizing top coat doesn't last nearly long enough.

I initially bought the Outlast after being sucked in by commercials depicting beautiful women dining, drinking, and even kissing with lips that looked luscious and smudge-free.  I always hate the smudge of lipstick that ends up on a drinking glass or coffee mug, so I was curious about a lipstick that would stay on my lips, but off my napkin.  I found two colors of Outlast at the local Dollar Store, so my experiment literally cost me a couple of dollars.

I opened the tube of Outlast and applied the stain to my pre-moistened lips.  I had heard that the long-wear lipsticks can be drying, so I applied a dab of Vaseline Intensive Care Rescue Moisture Lotion and let it absorb fully before applying the lip color.  The color went on easily and the wand was easy to control.  For more depth, I added a bit of the second color on top of the first, and was generally pleased with the combination.  After letting the colors set for a couple of minutes, I went over the stain with the glossy, moisturizing top coat.

The true color of the stain came alive with the addition of the top coat.  At that point, my lips felt great and looked even better.  That is, until the moisturizing coat began to wear off.  My lips didn't feel bad, but they looked dry and the color looked dull until I reapplied more of gloss coat.  True enough, when I tried the "smudge test" I didn't get a bit of lip color on my water glass.  However, I could see the clear smudge left by the moisturizing top coat.

My verdict on Cover Girl Outlast Lip Color is that it's not perfect, but it does serve a purpose in my makeup routine.  I tend to use it when I know I'm going to go out for a meal or that I'm going to be around my nieces and nephews and I don't want to get lipstick marks all over their precious little faces.  I just make sure I have the top coat in my pocket on purse.  The rest of the time, I prefer to use my Avon Glazewear Lip Gloss for great color and shine.

Even though it may not be perfect, the price was surely right and I bet it looked nice on you. Thanks for a great review!

Yes....this is the one. You'll have to try this and I'll have to try the Revlon and see how our experiences compare. A blessed New Year to you as well!

So true...Between the drying cold outside and the drying heat indoors, winter is not the best time of year to try Outlast. :)

Nope...not noses. I leave little auntie kisses all over their cheeks. They end up looking more like rosy-cheeked Santa than Rudolph...LOL

It does serve a purpose. Since it's winter though my lips are so dry I am trying to stick to moisturizing and shine with a little color. These dry my lips out so much and you are right it takes several applications throughout the day to keep the shine going.

So THIS must the lipstick you were telling me about! :-) Now I'm thinking I'll have to try this one and see which one lasts the best. ** Have a blessed New Year!

What? You don't like to kiss little noses and leave them looking like Rudolph? I used to do that all the time to my niece and nephews, on purpose and now they are older and still think it's funny when Auntie does that.
