My husband and I bought a home 3 years ago and since Countrywide had the lowest interest rate that we could find on a 15 year home loan, we went with them. A great FICO score can get you the best rate from any company you choose to borrow from. Everything went great.......no problems......we pay our note a week before it is due and other than a few bothersome phone calls in the beggining trying to get us to re-finance at a better rate (which there was none -- was just a mass phone call pitch to everyone with loans) we have had no problems with them.

We did not get a home above our means or a note that we could not afford.  We did not have to call them to re-negotiate our loan because we did it right the first time.

I see all this bashing against a company that is only "partially" to blame.....the buyers are the other party that should take responsibility.  I understand that people get in binds and need help from time to time, but it is NOT the lender of your home loan that should bail you out of a problem that you yourself helped create.  If you find yourself in a situation that you have to have help in, then bite the bullet and get the help.  No use complaining, because for those of us that did it right the first time and knew not to over-extend ourselves we are tired of hearing the complaints.

This company is just like any other......they are not different....the other loan companies did the same thing as Countrywide but not on such a high level.  So, if you are complaining about them, there are other people complaining about the other companies who they have their loans with.

Countrywide is not obligated to go above and beyond just to get you out of the jam that you and them agreed to be in.

If you had managed your money and prepared for your future before you agreed to take out a loan with them, you would not be in the situation you are in and need their help to get out of it.

Just wanted to put my 2 cents in.

Overall, I have no complaints about them as my current mortgage company, nor do I have any complaints about any of my credit card companies, or my car loan company, or any other company that I choose to borrow from.

Cajun Lady you are so nice to tell me how you make the Puppy Plants.
My 82 yr old MoM will love one for Mothers Day ! She is really into flowers and making crafty gifts to
pass around to 10 nursing homes each week. She will be an 83 in June and runs around like
a teenager. SHE WILL REALLY LOVE THIS THANKS VERY MUCH.

No problem ViewFromParadise......most people tend to want to blame someone else for whatever happens to them. Your situation is quiet different from the rest as you did not play any part with the screwup that happened. I hope things work out well for you. The puppy plant was so easy to make that you will be surprised. Simple instructions: Get a pretty pot and fill it styrofoam and put a styrofoam ball on the top and that is his head. Hot glue silk white mums or carnations all over. Glue some black plastic eyes and a nose where they belong and fill the rest of the area with some greenery or moss. That is it. All of these can be gotten from a dollar store (flowers and pot and styrofoam) and a craft store (eyes and nose, and moss). They come out so cute and people think you are so talented. But........we know better. tee hee It does not take any skill.......just a pic to copy from and you can duplicate it. Have fun making one. I would have made more but my area of town is totally depleted of white carnations and mums. My friend made one with cream colored carnations and it came out great too!!

Hello Cajun Lady-Sorry if you took my review comments personally. I did not intend to upset you.
All people in foreclosure are not GREEDY or live beyond their means. My circumstances are
not because I borrowed more than I could afford or to repay in a timely manner.
You sound a bit sarcastic to me for such a nice lady that can be so creative and make a cute
Puppy Plant as you have. I would really appreciate you telling me how to make one.
Please, agree to disagree and leave it at that. I wish you the best of luck with your Countryfried mortgage.

You do not know the whole story. I was not given access to my own account to make payments.
My account was LOST-the original note lost and combined in someones investment account.
By the time this was corrected I was then three months and they would not accept CASH PAYMENT
IN FULL. As I said you are fortunate not to have any problems with them and I hope they continue
to treat you fairly.

An agreement is an agreement. I have abided by the agreement I signed and have not had any problems with them...and no need to contact them for any change to the agreement that I signed. There are 2 sides to every story..so what is your story? Did they not loan you money on the terms that you agreed upon? Did they call the note early or something like that? Did you get a ARM loan and now regret it, but loved it when it was in your favor? I am not saying that the Countrywide customers are greedy..I am only saying that people tend to raise hell when things don't go their way and want to back out of the deal and blame someone else. I did it right the first time by signing a contract and holding my end of the bargain. Plain and simple. I have not tried to re-negotiate my loan with them, but if that need would ever arise what could they do that I did not already sign and agree to?? If you got in over your head to begin with on a mortgage, then whose fault is that? How many people would say "it was my fault, I got in cheap and never thought things would change". Don't be bitter towards me for rating them good. They have been good to me from the start...and I have been good to them because I am fulfilling my end of the bargain. That is way it should be.

I did not say that I knew more about them then other people, I simply said that I have had no problems with them at all. They gave me a really good "fixed rate" for my term of loan. I knew going in what my monthly payments would be and I have paid on time every month. I never needed to call them to renegotiate my payments (because of something I did that was NOT their fault). They treated me very fair from the "get go". I am not affiliated with them in any way other than my home mortgage. I have abided by the terms of the contract that I signed. Have you? Why should you be upset with them IF you were the one that did not follow the rules? Are you of those people that blame all your troubles on someone else? You can go ahead and sue them...I really don't care. But I hope for your own sake, that you are not at fault and you did what you agreed to do WHEN you signed saying that you would do.

CajunladyO- you are a rare find. From your 2 cents I suppose you know more about Countywide than the 10-15 states that sued Countrywide for unfair deceptive and fradulent practice. You are forunate and one of very few people that have any positive comments about them. ALL OF US DID NOT GET A LOAN WE COULD NOT AFFORD-ALL OF COUNTRYWIDE CUSTOMERS ARE NOT GREEDY INVESTORS You must hav never heard of CSPAN or watched the Senate Banking Hearings. Good luck with
COUNTRYFRIED and I hope you have a fixed rate not an arm loan.
You must be affiliated with them. I'm suing them.

Good observations about Countrywide and home buying in general.

Also, it is nice to see another resident of Katy here at Viewpoints :)

I agree with you partially... people have seemed to loose track of living within their means. Although I don't have anything with Countrywide, we did end up in a place we could no longer afford... partially on our part but also partially on the bank's fault. We started with a payment of $550 and within 2 years it was up close to $800 with a declining percentage rate as well. It had more to do with configuring our escrow incorrectly and increasing property taxes. Just goes to show that it's not just about poor decisions.

You have a great perspective on this place so thanks for sharing.
