Cosmo's Beauty Bar is awesome!
I found this little gem located in downtown Glen Ellyn about a year ago. A friend had a birthday 'party' there for 7 of us. I must admit, they impressed me quite a bit. They kept the salon open solely for our party (which began at 7 p.m. on a Thursday).
Inside
This place was warm and inviting from the go. The salon was small, only 3 pedicure chairs and 3 stations where they do the hand services. On the opposite side of the salon was a martini/wine bar!! OMG I thought, how could this possibly be? To have a beauty license and a liquor license has GOT to be tough to pull off, especially in DuPage County. I later found out that is one of the reasons why their salon is immaculately clean. The walls were painted pink and purple (yes I know this sounds tacky but believe me, it wasn't!!), they have 2 large bay windows with overstuffed pillows where you can sit and wait for your appointment. The actual bar itself seats 6. Every detail has been accounted for, down to the wattage of their lightbulbs. I have got to say that they have the best public bathroom I have ever seen, in fact their bathroom was better than some of the ones I've been in at friends home.
Employees/Atmosphere
Currently there are 3 workers there. The two owners/partners and Carly. The owners are total sweethearts and you really feel welcome each visit. The first thing I noticed is that they do not use any of the automated tools used in most salons. Everything is done by hand and they pay great attention to detail. Since they do everything 'manually' it takes a little longer for your services, but it is well worth it. They provide all the services found in salons. I have also found that most upscale salons can be very snobby and I have never experienced that at Cosmos. There is a great aura about the place and perhaps it's the martinis but you don't see many of the gossipy soccer moms hanging around.
Drinks
Every time I go I try the martini of the week. Last week it was a pomegranate martini. Wow was it good. The cost is $8 for a martini and they are big. I have not gotten any wine but see alot of women who do. I must admit that when you sit in the massaging pedicure chairs and relax after a long week with a nice drink while someone pampers you, is about as close to heaven as one can get. The ultimate treat.
Bottom Line
If you are looking to relax after a stressful week, or just treat yourself because you deserve it, check this place out.
