Cosco High Rise Booster —

We have two Cosco High Rise Booster Car Seats (for the 7-year-old and 5-year-old) and have used them for about a year and a half. Here are the advantages and disadvantages we have experienced with this booster seat:

Advantages:

  • Small size (This comes in really handy when you need to fit two boosters and an infant carseat in the back seat of a 2-door Cavalier--they fit...barely.)
  • Portable (It is handy to be able to switch from vehicle to vehicle--we can grab both at the same time and the kids can even carry them if we have our hands full)
  • Durable (We haven't had any major problems with these seats other than getting the covers back on after washing. We haven't had any wrecks, so we haven't put them to the true test, and I hope we never do!)
  • Removable covers on the seat and armrests (We've washed them several times and they seem to wash well.)
  • Dark color (This color blends well with my car's interior and does not show dirt and spills as easily.)
  • Price (I believe I bought mine at Wal-Mart for about $15, which is much less than the fancier, heavier, bulkier boosters.)
  • Satisfy seatbelt law for safety and may keep the older children from poking one another's eyes out. (You can check the law online to see what your child needs.)
  • Still leaves a little bit of wiggle room, but my kids are pretty small.

Disadvangages:

  • The seat cover seems to have a flaw in design. The carseat came new in the box without the cover on it. When I tried to put the cover on, the three pieces on the seat that were supposed to line up with the holes on the cover were WAY too far away. I looked at all the directions and tried to put the seat cover on several different ways and there was no way that I could put it on the holes that were on the cover. I ended up making new holes.
  • It has a fold-out cup holder, but there is no room for the one on the left side of the vehicle because it is next to the side of the car. Actually, in my car there is no room for the cup holder on the right side of the vehicle because the infant carseat is next to it. Sometimes I wonder if there is room in my car for me!
  • This booster does not have a headrest, but if I through a pillow in the back, both of the older girls can lay their heads on the edges of the baby's carseat if they want to sleep.
  • It's a bit difficult to reach the seatbelt if you have two boosters and an infant carseat in the back, and my 5-year-old needs help getting in and out of the car because she cannot reach the seatbelt.

Helpful Hint:

It is helpful to keep a towel in the car so that you can keep the seat a little cooler if you park in the sun.

My Viewpoint:

Cosco High Rise Booster Car Seats are durable, convenient, portable, and fit into tight spaces. The main disadvantage for me is that I ended up making new holes in the seat cover because the existing holes would not fit on the seat. A booster seat with a high back would be more convenient if your child sleeps a lot while you are driving. With three children in the back seat, that does not happen in my car very often!
