This car seat definitely has some drawbacks, but overall, it's worth the effort. I used two of these seats for about 4 years, and I wouldn't have traded them for anything!
The seat is a little difficult to install, and bulky, but once it's in, you can be confident your child is safe. The optional heat support, padded bar restraint, shoulder harness and degree of recline are all adjustable, meaning the seat fits your child, instead of trying to fit the child to the seat. This is important because the seat is meant to be used for toddlers on up, and that's exactly what I did. I bought them when my twins were a year old, and used them till they were five.
For smaller cars, these seats may not be ideal. They are a little bulky, but mine were in a mini-van, and they fit perfectly. The only reason I bought different seats when the twins turned 5 was because our state has a car seat expiration law, and the seats had expired (they were more than 5 years old from the manufacture date.)
I can't say for sure the seats were comfortable since I couldn't sit in them, but both of my boys had trouble staying awake once they were buckled in. I'm guessing that meant they were VERY comfortable!
