While I'm home in my kitchen, anyone who knows me knows I never claim to be much of a baker. But that doesn't mean I don't appreciate great bake-ware. One of my favorite pieces of bake-ware is the **Corningware 7-ounce French White Ramekin**.

I find these small, classically styled ramekins ideal for preparing and serving individually portioned desserts, soup and puddings when I want something to add to the presentation. Their clean fluted design usually turns the trick.

One of the things I most appreciate is the ability to go from the refrigerator to the oven. I can often partially prepare something in advance and hold it in the fridge until it's almost time to serve. I finish it up in the oven and serve it at precisely the right time, the way it was meant to be experienced. This works extremely well for waistline friendly portions French Onion Soup, complete with baked gruyere cheese topping them. .

Some time ago I saw a program on the Food Network where they were used to make individual Huevos Rancheros, one of our favorite breakfast dishes. Their 4" diameter is perfect for this dish, and of course they're so easy to clean afterwards.

Performance
The Corningware 7-ounce French White Ramekins can be used in the oven, microwave, refrigerator and freezer and go from one to the other comfortably. Having 2 sets of 4 I also find them helpful as "ingredient bowls" during meal prep. Since they are a glazed ceramic they won't pick up the odor of herbs and vegetable such as onions and raw garlic.

Ease of Cleaning
Because they are a glazed ceramic they are extremely easy to clean either by hand or in the dishwasher. They don't pick up stains and odors like many oven safe plastics.

Durability
When used as intended, Corningware 7-ounce French White Ramekins are quite durable being generally chip resistant. On the other hand, they are a ceramic and if dropped on a tile floor will shatter pretty nicely. Due to their small size and glazed finish I recommend handling them with dry hands whenever possible.

Design
These 7 oz. ramekins have the classic fluted design desired by most in ramekins. Their classic look will add to the presentation without distracting from the food.

Doesn't Stick
Being a glazed ceramic, the ramekins release foods well, but to call them non-stick would be a mistake. Used for the types of things they are intended for they work well.

As a wedding gift, my husband and I received the **CorningWare French White Bakeware set**.  The set includes the "French White" design of round and oval bakeware pieces that can go from the oven, to the table, to the freezer.  Some of the pieces came with a glass lid and some came with a plastic lid for storage in the refrigerator.

The design of "French White" is a simple, but beautiful white design with fluted edges around the entire baking dish.  The set I have includes several round baking dishes and several oval baking dishes.  They stack inside each other nicely and are great for storage, but....the glass lids are horrible for use and storage.  Since more than one baking dish has a glass lid, you can't stack the dishes with the lids on top of them.  Thus, I have round and oval glass lids in my cupboards just taking up space.  Another problem I have with the glass lids is that they are not very secure at all.  The plastic lids fit on the **CorningWare French White Bakeware **very nicely and securely like Tupperware.  The glass lids would easily fall off if not held correctly.

I do like how the CorningWare is non-porous, so it won't absorb the odors of other food and I also like that I can bake, microwave and freeze them.  They clean nicely and store easily, except for the glass lids.  Would I recommend them?  Yes.  They do perform well regardless of their lids.

Love the look, love the performance!

Comments about Corningware French White Bakeware (Various pieces):

Corningware French White Bakeware is such a classic looking line. It just seems to go with any decor or any table setting, which is a big plus for me. I own several pieces of this line and have been very pleased with them all. I currently own the 1 1/2 quart & 2 1/2 quart sizes in both the oval and the round shapes, along with one of the appetizer serving dishes and one of the oversized soup mugs (is there a support group for Corningware addicts?). I use at least one of the products nearly every day, and on days when I'm serving a large meal, I use nearly all of them. I love all the different options that corningware offers in this line. There are different shapes to choose from, in addition to different sizes, plus they offer glass and plastic lids for most of the dishes. I still have several French White products on my "wish list", namely the smaller sized casserole dishes and the ramekins. Highly recommend!

Performance
Bakes beautifully!

Ease of Cleaning
Cleans up in a snap.

Durability
No cracks in the glaze or chips so far.

Design
I love the look of the French White products.

Doesn't Stick
Still use non-stick spray, but clean up is a breeze.

Not bad...

Comments about Corningware French White Bakeware (Various pieces):

I received a set of French White Bakeware as a bridal shower gift. While it is a little old fashioned looking for my taste, it's still a high quality product, so I kept it. I haven't really used the set for much more than serving and storing food since they came with lids. The variety of sizes is nice, and the two lid options on the smaller ones are great. Unfortunately, I stored a salad in the larger one and then put the lid and casserole dish in the dishwasher. When taking the lid out, it EXPLODED. Luckily, nobody was hurt, but I was picking glass out of the dishwasher forever.
I'm hoping this isn't too common of an occurance. I've read about glassware exploding, especially after extreme temperature changes, but why would they claim to be dishwasher safe if they're going to explode after being washed?

Durability
All but the lid are still in good condition...

Doesn't Stick
Like I said, I haven't used these for baking, but when storing leftovers some residue is left behind even though it wasn't even baked on!

Corningware French White : Beautiful and Functional

By

from USA

Comments about Corningware French White Bakeware (Various pieces):

When my husband and I got married, Corningware's French White Bakeware had only been on the market for a few years, but several older women told me I needed a set, so I registered for one. They were right!

I cook in these dishes almost every single day. Most of the time it is just for my own family. However, they are wonderful for when you have special guests over too.

The best thing about the French White Bakeware line, in my opinion, is that not only are all the pieces functional for cooking, but they are beautiful for serving as well. You can bake your meal in these dishes and then serve the food straight out of them, which makes cooking and cleanup much easier. Using several different sizes of the dishes on the table at once looks really nice.

For beautiful serving dishes, these are a good price, especially given their versatility and long life. I am so glad that I found these years ago.

Gotta love a classic!

By

from Talihina, OK

Comments about Corningware French White Bakeware (Various pieces):

I received a set of Corningware French White bakeware when I was married 30 years ago. I asked for that because I knew that if I wanted to serve from a piece that it would always compliment any dish I owned and that it would probably be available for replacements in the event of breakage. Well, I am quite surprised that it has stayed popular this long, but it is a classic! While I do take very good care of my stuff, I will also say that not a single piece of this set has ever chipped and I put them in the dishwasher. It has never permanently stained, either. I do use cooking spray in them and they will occasionally appear to be stained, but I have found that a non-abrasive cleanser like Bon Ami and a non-scratch scrubby gets off anything that is on them, even gray marks on the bottoms from the oven racks. I have acquired a few pieces since the original set (they do look ever-so-slightly different, but not enough to stop me) and they even came with sealing plastic covers for the refrigerator, which I love. My favorite is the oblong two and a half quart casserole - it holds a double bath of tuna noodle casserole or mac and cheese and fits is my large toaster oven (not with the lid on - I have to use foil). The only negative thing about these is that they have always been slightly difficult to handle when hot. Something about the way the top lip flares out and the dish being basically slick anyway makes them hard to grab, so I always have to slide them forward somehow (like move the whole rack forward) in order to get a good grip on them. I looked for years to try to procure some kind of specially-made metal basket with handles that could be put in the oven with my favorite piece to make removal easier, but I was never able to locate one separate from a whole new set, even at an outlet store. But nonetheless, I love these and would buy them again.

Performance
They aren't non-stick and do have to be sprayed or oiled.

Ease of Cleaning
Fine, if you spray or oil them.

Durability
Mine are in perfect shape after 30 years, but I really baby my stuff.

Design
A little hard to handle when hot.

Doesn't Stick
Works well with cooking spray.

Our Corningware French White Bakeware broke.

By

from Chattanooga, TN

Comments about Corningware French White Bakeware (Various pieces):

Our Corning ware French White Bake Ware casserole dish broke. The dish was very pretty when we first got it. Of course, we scratched up the inside using knives to cut the casseroles and metal pancake turners to take the pieces of food out of the casserole and forks (my Dear Husband likes to whisk eggs with a wire whisk and sometimes using unusual containers to do that whisking. Hey, he's cooking, so I don't argue. And I was always concerned about putting the dish in the dishwasher thinking that it might break. Well, it did break, but not in the dishwasher. It was soaking in the sink and someone dropped a big plate on top of it. Picking up shards of that white casserole was not easy. Perhaps if we did not have small children dropping things into the sink on top of our casserole dishes (or if I just cleaned them immediately instead of letting them sit) our bake ware would still be in one piece.

Durability
Our Corning ware French White Bake Ware casserole was definitely not as durable as our Pyrex and Anchor Hocking and Visions. It is more fancy pretty, though. We are rough with our bake wear, though, as little children sometimes help set the table and accidentally drop the casserole dish or something is accidentally dropped On the casserole.

Design
I think that the Corning Ware French White Bake ware is pretty. I like the white and think it is a casual fancy.

Doesn't Stick
I can get food to stick to most surfaces, so I normally try to avoid all of scrubbing by always trying to remember to spray all of my pans and dishes with a Non Stick Cooking Spray before using them. I still have to scrub, but not as much as if I had not used the spray.

This Flute Does Bring People To The Table!

By

from Podunk, NY

Comments about Corningware French White Bakeware (Various pieces):

In spite of having a large collection of bakeware and cookware, I came upon a beautiful french white bakeware piece that I just had to have. A round 1 1/2 quart baking dish.

I liked to make brown rice pudding, bread pudding, souffles, custard, and a few other things that the family really enjoys. This dish is really pretty with its fluted sides, and does a great job of presenting lovely food preparation.

Performance
The French White Corningware Round Casserole dish has seen many great dishes. I have to say that all of the things we have made in it have left it white and clean afterward, and evenly baked. Stains don't stick to the dish and if prepared properly, they don't stick either. This dish did not come with a lid.

Ease of Cleaning
Although at times I have had to use some elbow grease when cleaning this dish, most of the time if it is greased and prepared properly, this dish cleans up in a snap. The glazing is nice a thick and makes the stains stay off.

Durability
We have had this dish for about 10 years now, so I would say this is VERY durable, as long as it is not dropped. Also, you have to be careful not to scrape this with metal tools. I have one Corningware that has scratches in it where food does stand and gather.

Design
I just love the fluted sides of this dish. It is very pretty, easy to use, and lovely to look at. The design is really nice and the dish is made so that things bake evenly.

Doesn't Stick
You have to be sure to grease this dish thoroughly or it will stick. If it is buttered or oiled properly, food will come out beautifully. If you don't you could be having a challenge getting the food off. A good soaking, however, usually will loosen up most stuck food, however, so it is still not as bad as some pans can be.

Corningware 7-ounce French White Ramekins: A Classic

I love my Corningware

By

from Medina, OH

Comments about Corningware French White Bakeware (Various pieces):

I received a nice set of Corningware for Christmas from my mom. It was a set of 5 dishes with glass and/or plastics lids for each piece. Even though I have not found a good to place to store them, I use them so much I hardly need a space in the cabinet for them.

The set has 2 small bowls with plastic lids, 1 large bowl with a glass and a plastic lid, and 2 oval bowls (1 shallow, 1 deep) with glass lid that can be used on either one. I love that I can use them for baking, storing in the fridge, and then reheating in the microwave. Of course, the plastic lids can only be used for storage, but they have a good fit. Eventhing is dishwasher safe, which makes the set even better.  The pieces clean up well and heat evenly.

The only minor problem I had was one of the plastic lids turned orange-ish after a trip in the dishwasher with some pasta sauce. This makes the lid not as pretty, but it happens to most types of plastic in the same situation.

We love our Corningware!

By

from Champaign, IL

Comments about Corningware French White Bakeware (Various pieces):

We have several pieces of Corning ware and they are our go-to for making casseroles and such in the oven. Their products are durable, my mother has had some of the same for many years and we've had ours for about 5 now. The only problem I've had is that one casserole dish was cracked in to many pieces when I went to get it one day after being stacked with other CorningWare, we still have no idea what caused that!

I love that we can put the lid on and pop it in the fridge if necessary, or if we have guests, the dishes look good enough that we can put it straight on the table to allow people to serve themselves. I rarely use metal pans these days as the CorningWare is easier to clean and store.

My one complaint is that once something starts to discolor the white, it is very difficult to clean again, especially marks from metal serving utensils leaving marks that are near impossible to get off. Ideally, use something silicone or wood for serving to avoid this problem!

Great bakeware for the price

By

from Charlottesville, VA

Comments about Corningware French White Bakeware (Various pieces):

We registered for this set of Corningware bakeware when we got married. I had grown up with my mom using the corningware throughout my childhood, so I was aware of the quality. The set I received contained two round casserole dishes, and two rectangular casserole dishes, a lid for each of the 4 dishes, and 2 little dipping bowls. I mainly use the rectangular ones because most casserole recipes call for rectangular dishes, but the round ones are good for baking things like vegetables or fruits. Growing up, my mom always made ginger carrots in the round dishes. I use the rectangular dishes a few times a week. They clean up really well. I just soak them after I serve dinner, and then most of the food comes off, and it just requires a little bit of scrubbing. The only negative thing about them is that they are heavy. I wish I would have known about the light ones when I registered, but I think they might not have been available then.

I use the tiny dishes for snacking or for putting my infant son's solid foods in them to feed him. Those can go in the dishwasher.
