A new little pizza place has opened its doors on South Olden Avenue where a jewelry store used to be, it's name is Corleone's. My folks had ordered a couple of pies from them last Thursday, Pop called me to come on ove and have some because they bought too much. The pizza was very good, nice crispy thin crustm, well seasoned sauce that has little to no trace of acidity, in my opinion they definitely have one of the better pies in the area - I would say they rank in my top 3. So today, with the storm looming and unhappy thoughts of not being able to smoke some ribs out on the smoker, I decided to head on over to Corleone's to see what else their menu had to offer. To my very happy delight they have fried calzones. Now, most people in the area have never even seen a fried calzone, but I know that is the right way to make one. Baked calzones, although tasty, tend to sit very heavy and have an almost bread like quality. Fried calzones on the other hand, are light and airy. They don't leave you with that over bloated feeling in the gut. I used to order them at Eddie's over on Arena Drive and the cook there would make them special for me and my mother, since they closed I have not had this delicious treat, until today! Corleone's is set back in a good size parking lot, in fact there are more parking spaces then there are tables and chairs in the restaurant. Walking in you are faced with a huge counter displaying a variety of pizzas and zeppoli's. There was a soccer game on the flat screen tv, as is almost usually found in pizza joints these days. I placed my order of a small fried cheese calzone and waited about 15 minutes, which passed quickly as I chatted with one of the fellows behind the counter about the storm that hit some areas on Sunday. While waiting, even though it was 1:30 in the afternoon, the phone rang often, orders came in over the fax machine and there were a few other walk in customers like myself. When my order was ready, they threw in a bag of zeppoli dusted lightly with powdered sugar and I had them add a slice of sicilian pie with fresh basil to be tasted later this evening. For the calzone, slice and a coke the total was $11.07. Not wishing to taste this alone, I headed over to mom's, she is a huge fried calzone fan, and surprised her for lunch. She was thrilled! Cutting into the calzone, it was hard to miss that the dough was light and crispy. The marinara sauce was heavenly, it was not overly sweet nor overly acidic. The cheese oozed perfectly, our only complaint was the mozzarella cheese was a little too salt, otherwise it was spot on. The one small calzone satisfied the both of us, but for those with a bigger appetite just one will be perfect as Corleone's only bakes their large calzones, which is understandable to me. Once we finished our crispy, light cheesy treat, we tried the zeppolis. They were doughy and tasty, with a touch of sweet like a good zeppoli should be, my only complaint was they were way too greasy, as though they had not been drained properly. I want to try them again when they are warm, otherwise, we enjoyed them very much. (By the way, the worst zeppoli in the area can be found at Massimo's on Hamilton Avenue, hard, touch little balls of fried dough with no flavor.) The menu at Corleon'e holds everything from stromboli to traditional Italian dishes, which I look forward to sampling. The prices are very reasonable and they do offer delivery, 15% graturity is added on to every delivery. I would definitely recommed Corleone's and plan on going back again and again myself. Mangiar bene!!

I have had their tomato pie, and it is fantastic!! I also recommend their buffalo wings, they are the best ever, although they kind of flopped on their hot and sweet wings - too sweet and not enough heat. To fix it I order a six piece of the hot wings and a six piece of the hot and sweet wings, then mix them together and OMG!

Try the tomato pie. It's absolutely delicious. Love their pies. Think I'll get a fried calzone & a tomato pie for dinner. Thanks njangel for the input.
